Loadsa stuff to do

I’ve dived into writing Rogue Trader and being simply overwhelmed with how many systems you interact with in-game. I’ve also been listening to SPIN on repeat for a while too and I like the OP so much I feel like writing up some of my favorite details for it, we’ll see. I’ve been completing more games but now I have to write up my thoughts on it. Besides Jojo I’m also watching the remake of Rayearth too.

My first encounter with this song was getting caught up by a Big Octo and not having any bombs to properly fight against it. I don’t know what to tell you but being slowly drawn in to the maw of a giant squid that dwarfs your boat and having no real means of fighting back was pretty scary. I think I had the boomerang, which you can actually use to fight back, but the thought didn’t even occur to me.

Slowly getting back on track.

I managed to speed-watch a romcom from a season ago amid the chaos of my current schedule and do have “some” things to say about it. Not a lot but I feel the need to talk about it. Other than that, writing up Rogue Trader has gone slowly but I will try to get something out before the year so the rest of the games I’ve played get their turn quickly.

Wind Waker’s mini-boss tune isn’t anything special with its silly little flute going on in the back but its opening seconds are what sticks with me after nearly two decades. Those bells or gongs going off signaling the start of a particular challenge, as far as those go for Zelda, always felt like the start of a true life or death battle.

Getting caught up.

So aside from me making slow progress in Lies of P, I forgot to address the Steel Ball sized hole that I hadn’t really said anything about for the better part of the year. Ever since Netflix dropped that first debut episode half a year ago, I decided not to get on the hype train just yet because I always prefer playing it safe than getting swept up. I recently watched the first episode and it was fantastic, and the opening reveal last week also filled me with much joy. It’s funny to see anime-only people react to it with such glee when they have absolutely no idea how many future teases in it. My favorite bits of the OP was Johnny’s dark side, Funny Valentine on the mandolin, the tease for Ringo, Blackmore, and Wekapipo, and the tennis net.

I recall this theme well even if it’s basically an ambient theme because a trial version of this dungeon was playable in the Zelda Collector’s Edition that came bundled with the Gamecube shortly before Wind Waker came out. Pretty sure this is more or less Dodongo’s Cavern.

Really distracted.

Even if logging on and off of Darktide every other hour to roll for proper weapons and accessories weren’t taxing, other distractions keep popping up to inhibit me from freely writing my thoughts on RT down. With the rate work is going, I won’t be finishing Lies of P anytime soon, at least not in a way I’ll be seeing all of its endings on my own. I’m glad I didn’t buckle to more game sales, I definitely do not have the time to get through these before the next sale.

Arguably one of the most famous tunes from Wind Waker is Dragon Roost Island’s theme. Evolving from the Zora of all races, the Rito have wings that allow them easy access to most of the Great Sea’s civilizations without the hazards of dealing with whatever lurks in the deep. As such, they occupy the all important task of communication between islands through their post service. Frankly, I thought the theme was good but not the most memorable track in Wind Waker’s belt but as I’ve gotten older, its unique motif and instruments definitely make it stand out and be incredibly memorable.

Distractions

What a week to get both Darktide and Space Marine updates. That alongside from other developments over the weekend kept me glued to other things. I also realize that I’ve either forgotten to write about my Rogue Trader experience or misplaced it, and that was the earliest game in my recent games list so I need to get that one done before the others. It feels wrong otherwise.

The glorious Great Sea theme will frequently be interrupted by an enemy encounter. In such a wide open space like this, it’s only inevitable, although the threats that will approach you vary from locations. You can try and climb some observation platforms, enter submarines, or in this case, encounter an enemy as you’re sailing. These usually tend to be Gyorgs, Sea Hats, or other enemy ships and the theme changes to match the environment. I always thought this tune was memorable because of the anxiety it induces. Sure, it’s a Zelda game, and nothing is truly scary about it aside from Redeads but the insidious and aquatic theme of an overworld enemy, especially when it’s a Gyorg that just refuses to surface in a reasonable time to get hit is a sensation I still remember.

Still busy.

Lies of P is going smoothly, if slowly, but every time I booted it up means another boss is dead so that’s something. Still haven’t been able to attach pictures properly yet since I’ve been juggling a bunch of other stuff while also combating procrastination.

The Great Ocean is THE theme from Wind Waker and at its core is a rendition of Zelda’s main theme but in a way that’s not too blatantly obvious. The instrumentation from the horns in particular make it an easy favorite among all my Zelda experiences. Many people have bemoaned the Triforce Quest and how you’ll actually have to scour the map to find them but I actually felt like that was the most adventurous part that Zelda had ever been to this point so I thought it was novel. Making you actually explore more of the world like this is a good thing in my book. I’m sure my positive outlook on the final “quest” of the game is in no small part due to how much I love this theme.

On and on.

I did manage to write up nearly all of the games I played over the Summer and managed to get some headway into writing up my thoughts on Persona 4 Golden now that I’ve Platinumed it and moved onto Lies of P. I did get some pictures too now I just to organize 3 games worth of stuff.

The Dawn theme is not a new motif in Zelda but the Wind Waker variant is a singular favorite because of how much time you actually spend on the overworld and how much you’ll be sailing through the darkness of night and meeting the morning head on as the overworld theme kicks back in, in all its glory. Out of all the morning/dawn themes, Wind Waker’s is easily the best one with how seamlessly it leads into it.
