Endorse a Greensboro Ceasefire Resolution

Mayor Nancy Vaughan

Greensboro City Council is considering a Ceasefire Resolution, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the West Bank, Palestine, and several council members have expressed a willingness to support such a resolution. We want to thank them, and move more council people to join them.

For over two months the people of Gaza have been throttled by the Israeli government, resulting in the murder and genocide of over 20,000 Palestinian people. This is a humanitarian crisis that demands every possible intervention, so we are calling on Greensboro City Council to to pass a Ceasefire Resolution.

Dear Mayor Vaughan,

Thank you for listening to the calls for a Ceasefire Resolution during speakers from the floor on Tuesday, December 5. As your District 2 constituent I am asking that you support a Ceasefire Resolution.

For the past three months the people of Gaza, which is roughly the same physical size as Greensboro, have been subjected to a genocide supported by the U.S., so it is our responsibility to vocally support the call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Palestine. Greensboro holds a special morally significant position in calling for a ceasefire as the first city in the U.S. to go through a Truth and Reconciliation process, and being the birth place of the Sit-In movement. Resistance, struggle, and reconciliation are in the fabric of Greensboro, so we appreciate your support of a Ceasefire Resolution.

From Greensboro to Gaza we rise to the call of justice, dignity, and the value of human life. We know that 'never again' means never again for anyone.

Thank you again for your commitment to Ceasefire Resolution, and ending the genocide of Palestinian people.
