Britt Coxon

Hi, I’m Britt Coxon (she/her or they/them).

I’m an artist based in North East England, making things for web and print. Currently creating zines about nature, science, local stories and quiet daily moments.

Working with my dyslexia and ADHD to find and tell stories through art, illustration, graphic design, websites, music, photography, comics and zines.

I’m a member of the Paper Jam Comics Collective, my work has appeared in over 15 of their anthologies as well as my own self published zines. I love to show my work locally at exhibitions, craft fairs and art markets, it’s an excellent excuse to have a chat about art. I also help others publish their work, as a production editor, managing editor, graphic designer and colourist.

I love doing art workshops. My ideas often begin in collaboration or as drawings from life, using my sketchbook to explore, plan and think. I like thinking about communication and storytelling, mental health, self-empowerment, local and personal histories, and community.

My card designs start as a hand drawn sketch, then I scan them into the computer for tidying up and cutting by a paper robot known as the Silhouette Cameo. I carefully choose the colour and texture of the card for each design, adding recycled and handmade papers for a unique finish.

For prints I use a matte or slightly textured paper finish to capture the details of my original watercolours and bring out the bright colours of my digital work. My zines are printed on a variety of papers on my home printer and usually hand bound. All of my paper is sustainably sourced or recycled and recyclable.
