The Singularity is now
We were told the Singularity would arrive like a comet – a date, a flash, a headline. It won't. It's already here, and it looks like a press release nobody reads.
Anyone who has been trading knows this. Compounding is boring for years, then sudden. The curve doesn't change its nature at the knee – only our ability to ignore it does. An exponential is the one trend where the past is a bad guide, because the past is the flat part.
Look at biology, just the last six months. A pill that doubles survival in the deadliest cancer. A single infusion that edits a gene – no pills, no refills, no return visits. A man living on a pig's kidney. Each one, alone, is a story. Together, they are a slope.
And the same slope runs through AI, energy, rockets, materials. Each field now accelerates the others. That is what the Singularity actually is: not the moment machines wake up, but the moment progress starts feeding on itself faster than we can absorb it.
Here is the part nobody says. The bottleneck is no longer science. It's permission. The body is becoming a software problem, but our institutions still run on paper, committees and fear. The science is exponential; the bureaucracy is linear. And when a linear system meets an exponential one, the linear one doesn't win. It gets bypassed.
Europe should listen carefully. A continent that regulates before it builds will not be defeated by the future – it will be made irrelevant by it. It will approve the cure the year after its citizens started flying elsewhere to buy it.
The Singularity will not be announced. Nobody rings a bell at the knee of the curve. It will be noticed afterwards – by the people who stood in it the whole time, waiting for a sign. And what comes after will belong to those who didn't wait.
