No Damsel in Distress – Friday Fictioneers

Good Wednesday evening, my Bloggy Peeps!  To relieve some of you of your anxiety (I exaggerate totally), I have been inspired to write part 2 of last week’s story.  First part is here.   Hopefully, this stands alone but I may be pushing it a tad… Apologies if it is so.  Should you be inspired to write a stand-alone 100-word story inspired by Jennifer Pendergast’s wonderful photo, please do by clicking on my frog below and swinging over to the Squares to add yours.  Enjoy!

Her phone pinged as she arrived.  She waited until she was seated before seeing who it was.  He better have a good reason…

Hah!  It was not her late date but her friend Gisèle.  “Hey girl, you need me to help you escape the loser date?  Or is all good?”

Chuckling, she texted:  “Loser never showed up.  Don’t need you to be my knight in shining armour, tonight.  However, you are more than welcome to come and join me, unless you have a date that actually showed up?”

“No date tonight.  I’m all yours, girlfriend!  Order me a Caesar.”

“Done!”

First Date – Friday Fictioneers

Good Thursday, my lovely Readers!  I hope the sun is shining where you are.  Here, it is playing peek-a-boo with the clouds, but I’ll take it.  Rochelle has chosen Nobbinmaug’s photo (thank you).  Does it inspire you to write a story?  Please click on my frog below and add your link.  G’head, it’s fun!

She prepared with care, changing her outfit until one said “yes”.  A last look in the mirror assured her hair was right, makeup not smudged; she nodded at her reflection approvingly.  A sniff of her wrist confirmed she did not forget her perfume.  Perfect.

Sitting in her living room, looking periodically outside the window, she tried to relax and act nonchalant.

How long?  Too long – the sun was dipping.  She glanced at her phone.  Again.  Nothing.

All dressed up for nothing?  Fuck that.  Grabbing her keys, she made her way to her favourite restaurant.

Her phone pinged as she arrived.

Weekend Writing Prompt #490 – Hope

How to resist a 10-word challenge?  Why resist?  So I didn’t!  Thank you, Sammi 🙂

Morning Quiet – Friday Fictioneers

Good Wednesday morning, my wonderful readers!  It’s that time again where a merry band of writers is inspired by a photo to write a 100-word story based on a given picture.  Roger Bultot, while not a writing participant, does love to share photos with our leader.  How fun is that?  To join in, either to read other stories or add your very own, please click on my frog below.

This was her favourite time of day.  Early morning before anyone else in the house was up.  She made her way quietly down the stairs towards the kitchen, ready to enjoy her coffee–damn!  Light in the kitchen!  Who the hell was up at this time?  Who dared disturb her precious alone-time?

“Hi, Mom. Sorry to ruin your morning peace and quiet.  I just needed to talk.”

“You never ruin anything.  You made coffee?  Wonderful, thanks.  Hungry?  I can make you something.”

“No, I just want your company, if that’s okay.”

“Always okay, Baby Girl.  Now, go ahead, I’m all yours.”

Castle Stay/Poppies – Friday Fictioneers

Good Thursday afternoon, my blogging peeps.  This lovely photo of Lincoln Castle and the Poppy Display, in Lincolnshire, England was donated by Sandra for us to use in this week’s Friday Fictioneers.   How pretty is that?  Are you inspired to write a 100-word story from this photo?  Then by all means, do click on my frog below and add your link.  It’s a great exercise in creativity!

Wouldn’t it be cool if they transformed this beautiful castle into a hotel/apartment complex?

Wonder why these fake-ass poppies are here?

Would be much more cost-effective to use all the time rather than leave it “preserved” and charge an entrance fee.

There must be some reason to have them here.  Makes no sense.   They are so obviously fake.

Monamvasia, in Greece was THE coolest hotel/castle I’ve ever stayed in.  There have to be more like it. Don’t you think?

What are they made of?  Glass or is that ceramic?  And metal?  Actually, they are kinda cool.  What do you think?

What Global Warming? – Friday Fictioneers

Good Thursday!  Took me this long to come up with something for this photo by Roger Bultot (I love that he keeps sending photos to Rochelle but doesn’t play with us at all.  What up with that?)  Anyhoo.  I am playing and should you wish to, then by all means, click on the frog below and add your link.  Or you can simply read the other wonderful stories inspired by this photo.

“Can you believe this, Sammi?  It’s November 15 and we are swimming outside.  In a non-heated pool!  It’s just nuts, I tell you.”

“Hah!  And then they say global warming doesn’t exist.  I tell you, Georgie, it scares me to think of what’s ahead.”

“Oh, just enjoy it and stop being a Negative Nellie, a Spooked Scaredy-Cat, a–”

“Yeah, yeah, continue with the name-calling.  I’m serious.  I cannot help but think of that Star Trek episode.”

In unison:  “Inner Light”.

“Yes!  How long before our planet dies like Kataan?”

“Not in our lifetime, Sammi.  So enjoy it now!”

“I guess so…”

Procrastination – Friday Fictioneers

“One way or another, I’m gonna find ya…” Nope.

“Upside down, you’re turning me…” Uh huh

“Sign, sign, everywhere a sign…” Confusion!

“Signed, sealed, delivered–” Hell, no!

“I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes…” Possibly…

“Gimme some kind of sign, girl…” or boy…

“Should I stay or should I go. Dunh, dunh, dunh, dunh, dunh, dunh, dunh…” ‘Tis the question.

“Did you ever have to make up your mind…”  Indubitably.

Singing songs was a form of procrastination, she knew it.  She also knew that action was the only way to make the decisions right for her.

Dolly’s Start – Friday Fictioneers

Good Wednesday, my peeps.  I hope your day was fabulous!  Our lovely leader, Rochelle, has graced us with her own photo this week.  Where would you go with it?  Want to see what others have done?  Click on my Miss Piggy below and take a look-see and hey, while you’re there, maybe add your own!

It is very sad to hear the news that Dolly Parton has passed. Over the years Kermit and Miss Piggy have made several appearances with Dolly. Most notably on her show, Dolly

I am gonna be a star one day!

You’re only five years old, Dolly.

Wanna hear my first song?

Of course, honey.  Don’t forget you’re singing in our church this Sunday.

See?  And I’m six!

Mama!  I am singin’ on the The Cas Walker Farm and Home Hour!

Oh baby, you’re only ten.

Grand Ole Opry, here I come.

At thirteen?

I was invited and Johnny Cash introduced me and I got three encores!

I’m so proud, baby; don’t you never forget where you come from.

Never, Mama.  I might dress up and wear wigs but I’ll always be me.
