Princy does an awesome accounting of the Christmas 2008:) Here it is. Read up, people!
——————————————————————————————-
Iowa was freezing for me this time round considering there was both snow and ice rains!! But i fared better this time than i did before. Everyone was here, especially Leena di, Nav bhaiya and the kids…so it was great! Rohan got so many gifts that he didn’t even know what to do with all of them! But both him and Neal were sick with fever and cough so it was a tough week for Leena di and Nav bhaiya. I don’t think they got any rest at all. Infact, i was asked if i wanted to adopt them…lol 😉
Christmas party at Joey chettan’s house was nice. It was more crazy and fun last time because of Rosily aunty’s ‘pick a gift’ theme and ofcourse because you guys were there too. This time round they played the whole ‘white elephant’ game which kind of sizzled out coz there were only 5 gifts from 5 families and no one stole anyone’s gift even though we kept telling them they should and ended up that they took just whatever they got. Infact poor Rosily aunty ended up getting her own gift during the game! Joey chettan brought out a sweet ipod speaker system and said whoever answered 5 biblical questions right would get it. Nobody got the majority and lets just forget the fact that no one knew all the answers at all in the first place…so Joey chettan decided to save it for next year. Then he changed his mind and made all of us pick number chits and had mummy draw one number. Tommy bhaiya happened to be the lucky one and he got the ipod speaker set! 🙂
The food was awesome as usual! Wine was the starter and ofcourse, Cecily aunty makes great food…there was chicken curry, cauliflower/potato curry, cabbage thoran, beans thoran, cutlet, salad, pappad, rice, chappati and for dessert cake and mango pie!!! I’ll bet you are drooling by now…lol!
We had Machaa’s surprise birthday party on 26th evening which was a really fun affair. Machaa had no idea that this was being planned and when we entered the house it was pitch black. Joemon and Tommy bhaiya greeted us at the door and Joemon said that we blew a fuse which is why it is dark inside the house. Machaa was like how is it that there is light in the basement and not in the bedroom and Joemon was like the fuse in the bedroom was what went off! Then eeryone one just popped out and yelled ‘surprise!’…and he was really surprised! 🙂 We cut a cake for both Machaa and Rohan as they were both birthday boys and mummy prayed for both of them. After a round of 2 pieces of cake with potato chips and cheetos with coke for everyone, Sony introduced a game called Mafia which was the true winner of the trip i should say! We all laughed so hard and had so much fun! We all truly missed you Saju chettai coz having you in the game would have made it even more crazy!!
On 27th noon Leena di and Nav bhaiya left with the rugrats and in the evening we had Francis allaiphan’s surprise 60th birthday party. All the kids were there except Sony and Rony and none of the seniors except Joey chettan and Cecily aunty were there. We had a good dinner of chicken biriyani, chicken cutlet, chicken curry, boiled eggs, salad, pappad, pickle, pineapple, oranges and ofcourse the strawberry icecream birthday cake that Francis allaiphan hand fed all of us! Some very scintillating, controversial, interesting, nostalgic conversation later we all headed back home. It was good night, good bye and see you again soon after that 🙂

Hope you feel like you were there for all of it now. Until later, au revoir!

Shadows

•April 5, 2008 • 2 Comments

Shadows must want attention too.
Why must they constantly take second stage
to light and mass?
Do they too not form shapes,
skip across space
have lives dictated by the sun?

In fact, aren’t they the more interesting,
the more mysterious sisters
in any pairing?

We imagine shadows disappear
with the sun,
with the light.
This ignorance must be why it makes its presence known
most formidably
as it slithers across the window
deep into the night
It must be why it grows dark with anger
and follows so closely
sometimes doubling,
sometimes tripling.

omen sony devi omen sony devi

bechara rony taras rahi hai woh ghadi
intezaar mai kab ayegi teri gaadi
omen sony devi omen sony devi
aankho par pati band kar math doond teri manzil
manzil yehi hai tere samne sirf aankhe khol

A Prayer to Sony Devi

•April 5, 2008 • Leave a Comment

A prayer to the Sony Devi…
By a humble Devotee..

Sony, the glue of the email
the caffeine in the coffee
the omega-3 in the fish oil
the smell in the theetam
the disk in the harddrive
the colors of the rainbow
the ashy skin on the elbow.
you are the essence of all things
oh devi, the all knowing and the omnipotent
without your strength all things lose their being
sony, the alpha, and the omega
the goddess of bangalore
from the southern patty fields to the northern Himalayas
your name is chanted by the holiest of the holy
your songs are sung by George Bush in Washington and
Osama in the caves of Afghanistan
Sony, the mother of all things
The maker and care taker of all things
your presence makes things things and people people
the first, the last and the only.

Another Mid-Day Poem Break from Leena!

I have heard your story
a billion times
Jack is mean
and jill makes you cry
You thought humpty
was your friend
and dumpty was too
your mother makes you mad
your father makes you weep
you wish you had money
you wish you had a dog
I have heard your story
a billion times
I’ll listen to it for another billion
about jack and jill
about humpty and dumpty
about your father and mother
and money and dog
because that’s your story

Riding High on Shame by Leena

Riding high on shame
tonight I come to your door
I forgot your name that night
I forgot my name that night
head hung low,
spinal decapitation on the horizon
How did i get here
I don’t remember
Where do I want to go
I don’t know
I wish I wasn’t here
at your door steps
hoping the flowers
will bloom the love
reminding you of
our slow dance
the flickering of our hearts
the melting of our souls
