Fantastic Book. Definitely worth your time if you are not a marxist, or if your neighbor is showing symptoms. (Or if you are sooooo dissapointed in Edward Cullen portrayed in the movie and are tempted to read twilight again just to relive the feeling…OMG YAAAYYY TWILIGHT!!!) Sorry, i’ve been watching The Soup lately…another post altogether.
Whistler!!
3 10 2008This trip was kind of an early Anniversary present to my nearly perfect wife. I say nearly because of the amount of time she is contractually required to spend with me.
Vancouver is a beautiful city and one of my favorite places to return to. Whistler is even higher on that list.
Unfortunately we are the type that let everyone else snap pictures while we leave the camera in our hotel room…which causes a problem when you go by yourselves and try to blog the experience at a later date.
A couple things of note: Vancouver used to be cheaper when the dollar hadn’t bottomed out…super expensive now in comparison to only a few years ago – The mountain range isn’t too far from the coast, which is why you can ski all year around with pleasant and or extreme temperatures. Even during our trip it was quite an anomaly – They are already preparing for the Olympics and it is ironic to see other than business vendors, most people are unexcited and lamenting everything except for the road improvements (SLC anyone) The sometimes awkward “lift talk” often centered around how the normal folk are the ones who suffer during the games. Out-priced and dis-placed was the general tone…hadn’t given it much thought before then, but I have always thought the games were overrated anyway…even though I was not allowed to say so while Michael Phelps (I saw that he is dating a stripper, swimming fast doesn’t take the dirt-bag out of you…sorry America) or Misty May were anywhere on the agenda – Lastly, as a commercial guy I was interested to find out that the “village” shop owners pay 300+ dollars a foot rent per year. The premium closet spaces push the mid 400s. Starbucks would be impressed to see someone paying ten-fold while they close stores.
Enjoy-

I don't usually make a habit of photographing trees, but seriously though these are everywhere...this row in particular leads to the university which jets out onto the coast...very nice

I came here before my mission twice and spent all day at this coastal beach, although on this trip there were no canadians skimboarding drunk...someone must have old them to stick to making maple syrup

My body relishes over the steak that THE KEG will soon provide...Best thing to come out of Canada by far

Summer Lovin’
2 09 2008Not the official “Labor Day” activities blog, but a look forward to what the brutal Az fall & winter seasons will undoubtedly bring. Temperatures that are measured with a Kelvin thermometer and releasing the pressure clamps on Tressa’s air-tight winter paraphernalia packs. The home will soon be littered with sweatshirts, jackets, gloves…and all the things we may need for a certain desert catastrophe…like going to the ice skating rink.
Polar Ice opens soon in Gilbert near our league soccer fields at Crossroads…so we will be preparing for the worst. I seriously cannot rehash or convey with words my laughter when we first went skating. I had not yet signed the credit card slip when I turned to find Tre in the sealed “climate controlled” room, shivering, with a cup of scalding cocoa embraced intimately. It is still hard to believe she ever learned to skate, but not surprisingly…shes a pro.

Keith Urban Epiphany
28 08 2008
If relationships are about sacrifice, cooperation, and compromise…than this was a big character building event for me. I have always been a “NON-FAN” of country. I would say extreme anti-country.
I wear low tops while riding a horse and thought Broke Back Mountain had been a long time coming. Anyway, my much better half is a huge Keith Urban fan and when I found out he was coming here I had cognitive dissonance all the way up until I picked up the tickets at will call. I got us close to make sure I didn’t forfeit my right to complain…but the concert was a 10…he was incredibly talented and I would confidently assert more pop than country. The extended cuts live were well worth it. I still haven’t admitted this in person. Enjoy

Mr. Beck
28 08 2008I love Glen, his book, his radio show…can’t get enough of him. He consisitently has the highest rated articles at CNN.com though he is one of the few conservatives. It must drive them out of their friekin minds.
I suggest you link to his daily newsletter here It is for your own good.
The class warfare argument is one of my favorites…someone emailed me Glen’s article about how some of the poorest cities in america have voted the same people in for years, even decades. Glen has some words its worth a read, click here

Where is your prayer rug?
28 08 2008They say that ten pages a day is 3,650 a year. Math wasn’t my best subject, but I know I have fallen short. I received this book from my mother. If you have been too busy to stop and think about the large population of the world who are bred, reared, and brainwashed to hate the western world…it may be time to take a few days and enlighten. But remember, “Islam is a religion of peace” Unless you have girlie parts…

Otiosity
28 08 2008I have always liked that word, though I so rarely am able to use it. Not because the meaning wouldn’t be applicable in day to day situations, but more so because of the subject of my first post below. Before the days of digital cameras I was never a picture taker…There was always someone in the group who took three pictures to a sane person’s one and then made quintuples of the negatives. Though looking back I usually never got one of those either.
Digitization has only magnified the problem for those people. I have resolved that no matter what part of the world I am in, who I have the pleasure of being around, or what incredibly news worthy event is unfolding in my proximity…I will never be the one to carry the camera around and manage the digital media that will ensue. Phone cams aside there are occasionally times that I feel forlorn. I want to share one of those times.
I am a big Romney fan…I am no politicist, but I am a thinker. I love the American dream, that we are endeared to stories of achievement & success. I am in the blame-America first contingent. I blame America unequivocally for all the good things in life. I could go on but lets stick to the point. My wife will probably leave me in the next life for a guy like Romney, and I couldn’t blame her…in fact I would still like to visit…so as an outward display of my undying desire to please her I arranged for her to meet him while he was here.
Everyone in the room had a camera (including us) but of course I neglected to pull it out in favor of having a trusted friend just snap an extra and send it to me. The marvel of modern technology and email condensing resulted in what you see below. Tre says she doesn’t mind, but I still had one of those moments where I felt like less of a man because I knew better. (Plus this picture belies how ravishing she looked) Me ever changing the camera stance = Otiose
