Welcome to Heart-Head-Hands: Everyday Living for Justice

You’ll find here an educational space focused on feeling, thinking, and doing (that is, everyday living) for justice.

As an educator, I take, as a starting point, that our fully embodied selves matter in the world. We can’t just think our way out of the incredible injustices, dehumanization, violence, and wrongdoing that characterize everyday life. We must feel and act, too.

We need our heart, head, and hands for envisioning and enacting a more just world. We need deep commitments to justice and an attitude of “try-try again” for striving to live out these commitments—both in everyday moments and for the long haul.

This vision guides the work you’ll find here, but don’t let BIG thinking fool you. There’s lots of attention to small matters, too. Weaving the mundane and material with deeply relational, ideological, and spiritual matters, this is a space for you. A messy, imperfect, human space. A space for making commitments, striving, learning, and unlearning.

Heart-Head-Hands is integral to my personal growth and to living my commitments. I’ve turned here for many things, including writing groups, (re)commitment hours, and coaching. No matter the offering, I so appreciate the thoughtfulness and the research that Beth puts into each one. I especially love the resources she shares, as they allow me to learn and to explore many of my questions.” —Chloe in California

Beth is a wonderful teacher: compassionate and tough and smart, smart, smart! Most of all, she teaches from the inside. She does the work. Just the teacher and guide I have needed over time.” —Kathy in Wisconsin

Beth’s work with Heart-Head-Hands has completely transformed my relationship to writing. I met Beth at the point where I was experiencing paralyzing writer’s block. Beth’s guidance, support, and caring helped ease my way back into writing. I’ve begun to love writing again. ” —Kylie in New York

Beth not only listens deeply but also reflects back the questions you didn’t even realize that you were asking, offering them out for future discernment.” —Jen in Wisconsin

Beth listens deeply—beyond words—tuning into what’s happening in my mind, body, and being … Through her guidance, I’ve gained insights and discernment that have brought me professionally back to life, and with renewed energy and purpose. Beth is, without a doubt, the best coach I have ever worked with. Her support has been nothing short of life-changing, and I can’t recommend her highly enough.” —Terrance in Texas

Notes from Early Days of Bereavement

After several months in hospice care, my mom passed on March 25th, and life rearranged itself once again. I write in these early days of bereavement to share initial reflections and enormous gratitude. I am so appreciative for many forms of support not only in these past few weeks but also (and ... When I started blogging in 2016—wow, that’s a decade ago!—I knew I wanted to share recipes and talk about food, because it’s so central to everyday life. This Valentine’s Day, Here Are Questions to Hold with Care

Day by day, I am easing back into work, moving bet Day by day, I am easing back into work, moving between quieter-slower times and active-energizing pulls, wanting to write and reach out in many ways. Grief-time is clarifying about what matters, and I feel strong desires to write, coach, and connect in life-giving ways, making futures possible.

This Saturday (tomorrow) is the next writing retreat, and I hope we’ll be inspiring + motivating ourselves and each other. Perhaps like ocean waves and pastel sunsets?

It’s not too late to sign up for this Saturday retreat (or for dates in May and June): https://heart-head-hands.com/product/writing-retreats/

I am grateful for the invitation to intuitive movement. The body says “no.” The body says “maybe.” The body says “yes.”

One clear yes was “go to the ocean!” Jonathan and I somehow managed the trip and did a couple of rituals to release, keep, and welcome in. Here are photos, mostly of water, also of flowers, and also of the two of us. <3

Our community’s heartbeat is more important than a data center’s hum. While so many of us are navigating difficult times, one thing is clear: The Future is Ours to Build. For our children, our neighbors, our communities — we need investments in health and well-being, funded schools, community-controlled clean energy, and jobs that lift us all up. Not data centers that bring crisis and chaos. Add your voice this week and help us send that message loud and clear: It’s time to #DitchTheDataCenters 🌍 #EarthWeek
