That "Stuff Beginning With The First Letter Of Your Name" Meme

Your Name: Juliet
Famous Artist/Band/Musician: Oooh. I always have trouble with favourites. Josh Ritter and Juozas Rima (brilliant oboist). Depending on my mood also Joss Stone, Jurassic 5, Just Jinger, Joni Mitchell, John Scofield, James Barnes. I think I've grown out of Jimmy Eat World. Oh wait I totally mis-read that question. Jurassic 5, I suppose.
4 letter word: Jolt
Color: Uhh... jungle green? Juniper blue?
Gifts/present: jerbil. Heh.
Vehicle: Jumbo jet
TV Show: Jackie Chan Adventures. There's obviously a real deficit of shows starting with 'j'.
Country: Jamaica

Girl Name: Jacinta, Jezebel, Julisha, Juniper.

Something found in a kitchen: Juicer
Reason for Being Late: Jiminy jilikers! The jumbo jet jolted me awake far too late.

Hokay, so. I've had a few people (one person mostly) badgering and prodding me for an update for a while now. Fine, fine I will then. And maybe I'll sign up for the NibelungenLive, or whatever it is. Who knows.

Hey y'all.

I be sick again. The dreaded mononucleosis has bitten me again. The past few days at work I felt like I was on the brink of being sick, but if I didn't work too much and got enough sleep I'll be fine... nup. Last night- there was a function of 130 people who were very thirsty for alcohol upstairs, and normal Saturday night + plus extra business because of the rugby downstairs. Two staff called in sick, so we were really understaffed. I didn't realise how understaffed until I was talking to Holly, who was begged to come in to work that night. She hadn't eaten in two days, and couldn't even keep water down, but doesn't have enough money to see a doctor.
Anyhoo. I get to work, feeling fine, although my voice sounds like Grover. There's Chris, Rowan, Holly and me upstairs. I learn how to make the special cocktails of the night. Cocktail-making is most of what I do for the next few hours. Fatigue, weakness, and dizziness start creeping over me- despite having slept 11 hours that day. Eventually I can't do the bar stuff anymore 'cause I was too out of it. I take a break in the staff room and almost fall asleep, but pick myself up thinking of Holly. I carry canapes around. Have some more hot water and another break. Clear glasses from tables. Chris, who was in charge of the function, sees me laden down with glasses and walking unsteadily. I unload the glasses to the 'glassie area', where Holly is washing them. She sees me crying from the effort of staying standing and tells me to sit down. I do. Chris sees me a minute later and hustles me off. The chefs give me some delish French onion soup to take home, and somehow I manage to walk to the bus stop and stay awake for the trip home. I sleep from ~1 am to 3.50 pm.
At least Chris was lovely enough to offer to work my Monday and Tuesday shifts so I can sleep for a few days. Although I really need the money. Blergh.

On another front, my birthday party shall be August 13th. Come as different from your normal self as possible. Example: my mother suggested I be Paul Holmes.

K k, finally time for an LJ update.

So... lotsa stuff happened in the last month...

I had glandular fever, went back to my parents' house to recuperate, and got better at the end of May.

Early June I got around to extracting myself from the claws of Pasta & Opera, owned by the Italian drug-dealing bastard Tony who'd pay irregularly in cash. The means of extraction was getting a new job at The Bluestone Room. I told Nico- my friend at Pasta & Opera who was pretty much a duty manager there- that I had a job interview on Monday, I thought it'd go well but I didn't give him notice. Job interview did go well, and I ended up having a trial that day too. I didn't get a call back within the next 24 hours, so I called them, only to find the general manager was in a meeting. I go off to orchestra practice, which is in the same suburb as Pasta & Opera. On the way back home from orchestra, I see a sign on P&O's door saying 'Closed - Opening again soon'. WTF?? There was a guy inside fiddling with electronics who had no idea what was going on. There was supposed to be a staff meeting that night! Naturally, I do my best to call Nico- to no avail. I get home, and find an email from the general manager saying he wants me to start work the next day. With very little money and apparently no other job, I agree. I call Nico again on my way to The Bluestone Room on Wednesday- he says it was all a mistake, and he was expecting me to work that night! So I flit off and do a fun shift at Bluestone. I've finally gotten the money Tony owed me- cheque bounced once, second time it went through.

So- The Bluestone Room! I'm actually quite enjoying working there. I've got to say, when I started working at Mecca Stonehouse in December 2003, I didn't think I'd grow to enjoy hospitality. But hey. Bluestone is a neat change for me, I not only wait tables but have to bartend as well. The functions they have are always good fun, usually themed (I got medieval dresses to wear for two medieval functions).

Er, floogle. It seems I have run out of time to write much more than that, gotta wash my hair then be off to work for a 5 - 2 shift... but do not fear, sometime in the next few days I shall continue- family winter solstice celebration, changing rooms, going to Christchurch, my birthday on Monday...

That be all for now, y'all.

I hath slain the mononucleosis!

Ah, blessed health is finally back. After 2 weeks of sore throat, and close to a week without solid food, lots of pills, 12 hours of sleep a night, earaches and headaches, etc. I am free.

It seems that a great proportion of people in The Barracks will be swapping rooms soon, more on that as it gets finalised. Sounds good for me at least, as I'll get my own room!

The Body Art Awards mentioned previously- Adam's entry won! Wheee! Hopefully the website will be updated soon with the details of how this year's event went. www.bodyartawards.co.nz It was so much fun! The amazing amazing painting and airbrushing and the other costume parts and the prosthetics and and and... 'Twas also fun watching Adam eagerly take photos afterwards, and Craig network. Do you bring your laptop everywhere Craig? =P

What else... July 6 - 12, I'll be in Christchurch, seeing wootduosmaster
Yay. (I just wish it was possible for us to live together... we're both too attached to our cities, it seems...)

Yeah I think that's it for now guys.

Toodles.

Hello all.

Sam is gone. *cries*

I have had an absolutely incredible past 4 and half days, all thanks to wootduosmaster
He arrived 11.40 am Friday morning. Friday was rather uneventful as he was quite sleepy. Saturday morning I had a photo shoot for the Body Art Awards (www.bodyartawards.co.nz). Adam painted Erin and me completely white, and took wonderfully surreal photos such as:
Body Art 1 and Body Art 2

We spent many hours shooting, so many interesting positions and poses were thought of.
Saturday afternoon was the Battle Day- steel-weapon fighting, and medieval music-making from the Argent Lords (including me). I turned up to that as the ghost of my Shoshanna (my Mordavia character) by not washing off the body paint and putting on my costume for her over it. Was very fun, except getting paint on my oboe reed wasn't so great.
Then we went back to my flat and started preparing for my flat-warming. Sam was the soupmaster, since he helped at Canterbury Faire (SCA festival) and I bought stuff and made snickerdoodles (cinnamony pastries). Oh my gosh the flat-warming was fun. I was expecting a fair crowd of LARPers, who arrived and were awesome of course. But when my closer and not-yet-LARPing friends arrived, I bounced with excitement. Everyone showed up with a sheet in tow! Sheets were wrapped around bodies, Smeeus was played, wrestling was done in an un-lighted room and much general merriment was had. Including discussing whether we foresaw the Anna-Tigger relationship happening...
Sunday we slept in (okay, every day excluding Satuday's photo shoot we slept in) and eventually got up and watched videos, since people realised how movie-illiterate I am (my own phrase).
Monday we went downtown- Medieval shop, K' Rd browsing complete with Turkish coffee, getting Sam's lovely longbow, and then to DragonQuest. I'm finding DragonQuest kinda painful- I'm party leader and have to make decisions! Argh decisions. Monday also had a really wonderful moment of relief for me when Sam said he's not completely gay any more. I actually cried with happiness and relief hearing that, despite him telling me over and over before that that he really likes me.
Tuesday he packed up *pain*. We went to Mecca Stonehouse Cafe, where I worked for two and a half years, had coffee, then to a Japanese restaurant for... linner, I suppose, since it was 5 and we hadn't had lunch yet. Then there was increasing pain as we headed towards the airport... talking about the viability of me living in Christchurch and him living in Auckland... crying... and he got on the plane. I walked around the airport with weak legs, unable to focus, for awhile...
/summary of incredibly amazingly wonderful four and a half days

I've finally accepted being prodded into getting a LJ, thanks to wootduosmaster.
Ermm... so much happening in my life recently...

I'm psyched up to move out. It's finally happening, been looking for a flat since December, looking seriously since February. No more dependence on parents, in a matter of days I'll be living in Penrose, with friends, for cheap. Flatwarming date is uncomfirmed, it's also going to be a birthday party for Jessie.

I was ready for singlehood, thought I'd accepted it and moved on, but somehow it was a bit of a shock to the system when the singlehood became official. In a convoluted manner- I told Lachlan about it on the bus and he said my life was a soap opera.

I am leaving Mecca Stonehouse. I'm being paid peanuts now, though my boss did offer me a raise- but accepting that raise would involve long-term commitment, almost surely without a contract but he could call my bluff, and I'd have to agree to more of my boss' awful policies. And the commute from Penrose would be horrid. Where to now? Possibly to the Chancery Mecca, it's inner-city and I've heard from a few reputable sources that the manager there actually knows what he's doing. But. I don't want to make a career out of waiting tables...

Oboe-ness is going well: getting the hang of being first oboe in the Aotea Youth Symphony Orchestra (having solos and doing the tuning), and having lotsa fun in the medieval music group on Thursday nights. We need more male singers though! Last week it was 7 females, 2 males, and the week before it was 7 females, 1 male. I hope my oboe teacher gets enough other students who want to learn to make their own reeds soon, it'll be so much cheaper when I can.

I think that's enough for my first entry, hopefully I can keep this updated a bit more frequently than my paper journals (I've got one that's been written in twice in the last 2 years).
