Fwd: Josie LiNI - Now it is July 26 2018 update

=============
July 2018
=============

This update is late, late, late.  That is because, among other things Yahoo ate my e-mail list and I had to rebuild it  Of course it did!.  If you ended up on here accidentally let me know and I'll make it stop.

We have a lot and not too much happening all at the same time.

Josie just finished 3rd grade.  She works really hard at it and is keeping up with her class.  We are working with some language things to help make it all easier for her.  Fourth grade next year.

In May Josie was the child ambassador for the Taylor's Wish for a Cure PH walk and fundraiser.

We also added Pulmonary Rehab to our schedules this year.  Josie finished the intake program and now we go at least 2 times a week to keep the gains she made.  She is one of the tiniest people there, and keeping to the schedule is a pain, but the rehab has been so good for her.

We are headed up to LPCH Stanford this weekend for a few days stay with them.

Two years ago we were thrilled to ditch the central line in favor of a new oral medicine.  And overall that medicine did the job.  But it is a rough med with lots of nasty side effects and over time I came to realize Josie was having a lot of unevenness in her response to it.

There is a similar medication available now with (possibly) fewer side effects and a more even release into her bloodstream.

We want to give it a try to see if it will improve her day to day life and overall health, and to do that means a stay at the Hotel LPCH/Stanford.

We are hoping this is relatively quick and easy.

School starts back in a few weeks.  Josie is very excited to get back (and June is having too much fun and wants more summer).

Thank you for all the good wishes and prayers.

And thanks for staying with us on the journey.

Re: Josie LiNI - Now it is Satuday July 29, 2017 update

July 2017 update....
============================================
Josie had a heart cath  at the local Children's Hospital this month.

Stanford is still waiting for the detailed numbers to check, but the big picture is that the oral medication is indeed doing the job as well as the IV line version - so for now we call it stable and just work to keep it that way. Josie is close to the highest dose she can tolerate, so it is a good thing it's working and we don't have to try and increase the medication any further right now.

In related news, we got her a cooling vest setup to help her manage the summer heat.  Between the medication working for her and the vest she is having a good time just being a kid right now.

At the end of June  I took the girls on an Alaskan Cruise.   It was a lot of work to pull it off but it was a lot of fun once we got going.

Thank you to everyone who follows along with good wishes and prayers.  We appreciate it so much.

4 Things about JJ

Boy can this kid draw.  It is a recreatiional thing in our house.

We should all be so physically fit.  She is strong, fast, and always in motion.

She is driven by her curiosity.  One of her favorite sayings is "can I see".  Of course, with her "can I see" means "can I touch" and her hands are always into whatever is happening even before she thinks about it.

She loves music and dance, just because they are beautiful

March 2017 update . . .

I held off on this update because Josie and I were scheduled to go up to Stanford /LPCH to let her PH specialist look her over.  We did that trip at the end of February.

In preparation  we slowly increased the oral medication (the one that replaced her  central line as part of the clinical trial).  We were able to add almost 20 % more to her daily dose (It wasn't fun, but we got it done).  We thought we were seeing good results, but were waiting to see what the Doctor thought.

I am happy to report that everyone at Stanford/LPCH was pretty happy with with what they saw.

Josie has gained a few pounds (good for her), and in her walk test she increased her distance slightly while still being able to keep her Oxygen sats in the mid eighties.  Her echo did not show the concerning spikes in internal pressures.

The summary is - overall the oral version of her medication is now doing the job as well, or even slightly better than, the medication through her central line. I am pretty excited - This is what I hoped for, but I couldn't see any reason it should work that way.

We have apparently achieved stable for now.

The oral meds still have their own downsides - mostly the dose is not realy consistent.  90% of the time things remain in a good balance.  Sometimes they don't and I get to carry Josie out of a store because she can't walk any more, or we spend and hour or so with headaches and nausea.

Overall we think that is an OK trade off for no central line.

We are in the process of scheduling a follow up heart cath over the summer to see how it is really going on the inside.  But for now we are just going to groove on getting to a good stable place and just try to have a fun summer!

If you want some more .  .  . I did a longer update on Ms. Josie for the 28 Days of Hearts project that features hearts kids adopted from China.  It was done just before we went to Stanford.

We really appreciate all the encouragement and prayers

Thanks for staying with us on the journey.

Someone is EIGHT

And she had a GREAT day.

LauLau and Auntie Cris took the train.  We picked them up right before lunch time and headed out to the restaurant.  We had a little extra time before our lunch reservation so we stopped at a small park and opened all the cards and gifts.

Then off to lunch.  This restaurant was picked because it overlooks the ocean.  But it turned out the food was pretty darn good.

Um- she meant to do her hair this way
That part about overlooking the ocean?  Well somehow we didn't realize that meant a ramp down to the beach on the other side of Pacific Coast Highway.

We figured it out this time .  . . and we had sometime before we needed to be back on the train.  So IMPROMPTU BEACH DAY
Even if we didn't have beach clothes.  Or a change.

Then we took LauLau and Auntie Cris back to the train - and because we have passes we stopped over at LegoLand for a bit.  They are already prepping up for Halloween.

No pics, but Josie got to ride a roller coaster she was denied last year because she couldn't remove her backpack and pump.  No pics, but I promise the smile was huge!

Then we got a bite and headed home.

Just as awesome - we made Josie drink all day.  She thought she would float away, but she didn't get sick that night.  That is a bit unusual.

May your days all be as restful and bright as this one was for us :-)

Re: Josie LiNI - Now it is Sunday September 25 2016

I have been politely reminded (a couple times) that it has been a while since I sent an update.

That is mostly because there is not a whole lot of drama happening, thank goodness!

We have reached a sort of balance.  We have entire weeks with no medical side effects showing up and we have weeks where we lose an hour and a half sleep every other night with Josie feeling really bad.

We have some clues, but don't always know why it goes one way or the other.

The med is still not quite doing the job, so we will need to increase Josie's dose again (slowly).  I'm not sure how this medicine will end up, but right now Josie is really enjoying being IV line free, so as sleep deprived as we are at times we are enjoying it with her.

Josie told me a couple weeks ago that the time she had the line was when she was really sick.  She is not better at all, but she thinks she is . . . so that makes it worth it.

Thanks to all those who follow along and keep us in prayer and in thought.

Visit Mom at Work Day

Joe wanted to go to a ball game, so he dropped the girls off at my work at 5, we traded cars, and he got on the trolley and left.

It was a beautiful day, so the girls and I decided to play in the park around my workplace.

I did say they could wade just a bit.  The result was inevitable, but so much fun!.
