when we were
savage, roaming tribes,
our gods were
savage too;
then, when we got ‘civilized’,
god was born anew.
*
the new god
was less like thunder,
and more like
me and you,
and so i have to wonder–
who created who?

old memories fade–
leaving nostalgic feelings
for places unknown

beyond the pines,
a grove of lines–
trees like quills
on porcupines;
sure, they’re sleek
and quite unique,
but they’re no good
for hide-and-seek.

starlight falls out of the skies
and settles in her upturned eyes;
she peers into the jeweled vault
until the sun begins to rise.

an amateur astronomer,
she knows the moons of jupiter,
orion’s belt, and saturn’s rings–
she loves the stars like i love her.
*
i hope someday she’ll love me too,
but i will not obstruct her view
or take the stars out of her eyes–
my love for her is tried and true.

if you want to know
what kind of person you are,
there’s a simple rule:
if you help others, you cool;
if you hurt others, you fool.

I took off in my car,

found a good place to park,

and I just kept on walking

until it got dark.

a grassy meadow
bathed in soft morning sunshine
lends hope to the day

my secret friend bows to my wishes;
he cleans my whole house and does dishes,
and some say he’s me,
but i disagree–
for i couldn’t be that ambitious.
