For those of you looking for work in journalism, I hope my newsletter gives you the hope and encouragement you need. Make sure you check out the August newsletter, because some of those jobs, fellowships, and internships still have not been filled.

But I’m here to tell you that you need to stop stressing out as you search. You may not get callbacks. You may face rejection. And that’s okay, eventually you will get work.

I should know. I have been fired and laid off in my career.

Joan Cirillo Emerging Journalist Fellow Program is a one year fellowship. This is an annual opportunity designed for early-career journalists. This fellowship includes three to four rotations across OPB Content teams, based on the fellow’s interests and organizational needs. It’s remarkable that even as we hear about so many company downsizings and layoffs in the news industry, I’m still able—thanks to your support—to share a monthly list of good jobs. This list includes more than 120 jobs, along with fellowships, internships, and other roles that need your journalism skills.

Thank you to all who have contributed, as this also supports my #CallingAllJournalists Initiative. It’s a project aimed at helping students and professional journalists thrive and survive, and hold their heads up high during challenging times in journalism.

But before you move on to the jobs section, let’s talk job interviews.

HAVE YOU BEEN GHOSTED AFTER AN INTERVIEW

I keep hearing that journalists get up to three interviews for a job, are led to believe by a manager or recruiter that it appears they will get the job, and then they get the silent treatment. Not even a nice email rejection saying they did not get the job.

That is very unprofessional. And as someone who helps journalists get jobs, please let me know if someone ghosts you after you saw a job in my newsletter.

And if you have been a victim of someone courting you for a job and then suddenly ghosting you, I truly believe there is a reason for everything. In this case, take that experience as a sign that you do not belong in that newsroom, let alone be managed by that person. Move on and don’t look back.

Your time is important. You are important, and no one should treat you like you are not.
