Global rock legend Carlos Santana, a 2026 Latin GRAMMY® nominee, joins forces with 20-time Latin GRAMMY® winner Natalia Lafourcade on “Hermano,” a powerful anthem that carries a message of empathy and reconciliation to humanity. The single is available now on all digital platforms via Sony Music Latin.
Written by Lafourcade and Edgar Barrera, who also produced the track, “Hermano” is a deep, heartfelt and vulnerable reflection on the world’s emotional and social state today.
“‘Hermano’ is a song about a deeply difficult reality that we face as a society and as humanity,” Lafourcade shared. “At times, I believe we have lost sight of the meaning of life, unity, and brotherhood. This song comes as a reminder of all the bonds that connect us—bonds that, in many ways, we have forgotten.”
With lyrics that invite reflection, the song calls for empathy, peace, love and brotherhood among all people, no matter where they come from. It also reminds listeners of what we share: our dreams, our families, our identity, our pride in our roots and the planet we all call home, Earth.
“We all come from the same mother: Mother Earth. And yet, we have turned our backs on her. We also all come from a mother who carried us in her womb, and too often, we have ended up pointing a weapon at that very same mother, at the very woman who gave us life,” Lafourcade explained of the lyrics. “The weapon becomes a representation of the values we have lost. Its bullets are made of fear—of irrational fears that create wars, conflict, injustice, and division throughout the world.”
Musically, the track blends Mexican folk roots, through the Veracruz-born son jarocho, a genre that has been part of Natalia Lafourcade’s career, with Santana’s unrivaled electric guitar, which gives voice to the emotions woven into the lyrics.
“Natalia Lafourcade has a beautiful spirit and a profound connection to the soul of the music,” said Santana. “There is a supreme sincerity in the way she expresses herself that touches the center of your heart. ‘Hermano’ is about recognizing that we are all one — one light, one family — regardless of where we come from or what language we speak. It is a reminder that we must choose love over fear, unity over division, and compassion over judgment.”
The release comes two months after the official video for “Mi Gran Amor,” featuring Becky G, a song that earned a 2026 Latin GRAMMY® nomination for Song of the Year.
“Hermano” and “Mi Gran Amor” join “Velas,” with Carín León, and “Me Retiro,” with Grupo Frontera, tracks that launched Santana’s new musical era, defined by a close collaboration with songwriter and producer Edgar Barrera, a 29-time Latin GRAMMY® winner.
