The Samoa Beach access point we visited turned out to be at the beginning of the long spit that culminated in Samoa State Park. There were picnic areas, etc. but a unique view caught my eye on one of the loop roads. A world war II Bunker remained near the beach.

When we drove over to investigate the bunker, which was not my cup of tea for photographs, I realized we were in a dune area with unique plants, the type that grow in the rare habitats between fresh and salt water on the US Pacific coast. Beautiful! I was glad we’d kept poking around to see what else was down this road.
