Saturday Caturday

It got down to 33 last night. The frost on the grass was so thick it looked like snow.

The cats slept with me all night but when I woke up, they weren’t on the bed anymore.

Radar & Bobby were in the fort. Bobby was lying on top of the floor vent, soaking up the heat. Radar was snoring on the comforter.

Chloe was sleeping on the table in the front window.

I don’t think Chloe needs to lie on the floor vents because she’s got that awesome fur coat. It’s gotten really thick these past few weeks & SO SOFT. I would love a fur coat like that!

Saturday Caturday

It got really cold ~ from temps in the 60s & 70s, we’re now down in the 40s. Of course it’s a brilliantly sunny day, adding insult to injury. When I got up this morning, it was only 38 degrees. & just now ~ as I am writing this ~ a freeze warning was issued for tonight. I don’t mind. A killing frost means that my allergies will ease up a bit.

I don’t mind the cold. I love winter. But today, it’s wicked windy & the wind fucks with my sinuses & gives me headaches. So I have learned to stay out of the wind as much as possible.

Now that it’s cold, the cats all want to sleep on my bed. Last night, I barely got any sleep at all because they were taking up most of the bed. I went out to the living room couch & dozed for a while. But I never got any real sleep at all. I was supposed to go to one of the No Kings protest today ~ there’s one not far from me & if I had been more awake, I would have gotten the bus there. But of course, the bus hardly runs on Saturday ~ it’s barely there during the week. Ya wanna go somewhere on a Sunday? Start walking.

I just want to go to sleep.

Here’s a picture of why I couldn’t sleep last night.

Saturday Caturday

I finally cleaned the entire house the other day. Between my back hurting so badly & all the writing I’m doing, I really let it slide. Vacuuming really whacks out my back. But I got to the point where I couldn’t stand it any longer.

The only room that didn’t get cleaned was the library because ~ you guessed it ~ the cats were sleeping in that room. LOL

I’ll get to it eventually.

Saturday Caturday

The other day, my first ex-hubby called me & said, “Do you know what happened thirty-eight years ago?”

I said I didn’t know. He told me that on the 30th of September, 1988, we got our first cats, Shadow & Kahlua. They were kittens, brother & sister.

The thing is ~ he had the date wrong. I looked in my diary from that year & it was November 27, 1988 that we got Shadow & Kahlua. I knew he was wrong about the date ~ I remembered that it was cold when we got them ~ not the warm days of late September. It was in fact, right after Thanksgiving.

This is what I wrote in my diary that day.

“November 27 Sunday

“1 p.m.  Oh day of days!  We finally got our kitty-cats – a sweet little black one with tiny white paws & a white “bib” under her chin – & a lovely grey ball of fur – Kahlua & Shadow.  I’ve waited so long & now I have kitty-cats – my “babies,” I shamelessly call them.  We brought then home in [a borrowed] cat carrier – we took them back to my dressing room – where Scotty set up the litter box & then we set them in the box so they had a clear idea of where & what it is!  They’ve been in the dressing room for the last hour.  We’ve taken some pictures of them – when we could coax them out from under the bed – they’re very naturally still afraid of us.  Plus they’re babies!  But when we retreat, they come out, wrestle with each other, climb on the bed, jump off, ambush each other.  They’re so adorable!  I hope they lose their fear of us quickly! “

Scotty didn’t want cats. He didn’t want a dog & he said that he never wanted children ~ one of the reasons I left him ~ I wanted children. I only was able to have one but if I stayed with him, I wouldn’t have had any. It took me an entire year to get him to agree to get cats. & he’s totally turned into a crazy cat lady ~ he’s had as many as seven cats in that tiny apartment of his. He’s down to four cats now. The other day, he thanked me for

I don’t have many pictures of them. When I left Scotty two years later, he wouldn’t let me take the cats or any of the pictures of them ~ or any other pictures in the photo album. I took some, anyway. I took some other pictures, too ~ I wasn’t going to let him tell me what I could take & not take ~ especially things that were mine. But thirty-six years later, he still has a lot of things that were originally mine. I still want my mother’s Pfatzgraff dishes. He won’t give them to me. If I had a more aggressive lawyer, I might have been able to get everything that was mine but my lawyer was a Buddhist & he asked me, “Do you want to fight for these possessions or do you want to be free?” I chose freedom. But it still galls me that he has things that I paid for & things that had belonged to my family.

(In 2017, he had a yard sale & he was selling all the Tupperware that I had bought ~ remember Tupperware parties? ~ & things we owned together but I had actually paid for ~ I made much more money than he did & I paid for almost everything. I took everything I wanted & he was pissed. But hey ~ I wasn’t going to let him make money off of things I had paid for).

Basically, we’re still friends ~ I’m friends with all my exes. & when we spoke the other day, he thanked me for insisting on getting cats. “My life wouldn’t be the same without them.”

Anyway, here are the pictures of Shadow & Kahlua.

I really love this one of Shadow & the jack o lantern.

I’ll tell you about my other cats sometime in the future.

Happy Caturday!

Saturday Caturday

I went out with my girlfriend & her boyfriend today. For years, the only thing my girlfriend wanted to do was go to this bar or that bar. I rarely drink anymore & I don’t want to spend my time sitting in a bar, especially since it seems like they’re filled with MAGAts.

But today, we went to a farm market & then had lunch at a small pizza place & then we went to a Nature Preserve & walked for an hour. It was the perfect weather ~ upper 60s, sun & clouds, & a lovely breeze coming off Lake Ontario.

I expected to stop at a bar & have a drink ~ since that’s what she always does ~ but we didn’t do that. When she dropped me off, she said how nice it was to not drink. I told her I was always ready to do stuff like that.

I walked into the house & called to the cats but there was no response. So I went looking for them. I mean ~ of course I did.

Radar was in the fort, sleeping. Of course, he woke up as soon as I entered the room.

Once again, stupid WordPress is posting my pictures sideways. & with the cheapo deal I have with them ~ the free one! ~ there’s no way to turn it around.

Bobby was on my bed, also sleeping. He too, woke up as soon as I entered the room.

Chloe was sleeping on the easy chair in the living room. The other day, I put the heavy blue blanket over the chair ~ I really hate seeing where Bobby destroyed the upholstery. Chloe always liked this chair but now she loves curling up on that soft blanket.

I really hate these sideways pictures. I tried turning the pictures around so that when they posted, they would turn the correct way. But of course, that didn’t work. I apologize for this ~ even though the problem is with WordPress. But whatever!

At any rate ~ upright or sideways, these pictures show that I have happy cats who sleep when I’m gone. I love my cats!

But you already knew that.
