: So.
First 2 days at the new job: -Learned new software. -Re-timed 3.5 minutes of dialogue for 24p. -Bypassed an audio malfunction. -Built a low-tech flying rig. -Revisited old flame, caffeine abuse. -Made eyebrows. -Quality time with the company dogs. -Watched sheep eat lawn. -Sorted through dozens of replacement mouths. -Devised means to fake a motion control move. -Destroyed part of a set on purpose. (Kurosawa-style.) I did pretty much everything but animate! I was ready. All the lights were positioned, the camera focused, the puppets prepped... the first two shots were ready to go... ...And then a whole new set of technical problems arose to shake me from my saddle of euphoria. Tomorrow oughtta be interesting. Y'all can carry on, now... 1st May 2008

( First Commission CompletedCollapse ).
With what works remain I'll be as steadfast as I am able, through a twist of circumstance: For in other news, I shall once again return to the animation world. I have been hired onto a five-month short film project perched on the coast of California. My job title: stop motion animator. We start Monday. 28th April 2008
: The Results.......
Okay. First off, über thanks to everyone who participated. You all get hugs. I was sent far too much good material... it was a challenge to narrow it down. I hope to be able to get to all of you folks eventually, (some time this calendar year when I'm not so pressed for time,) but for starters, and through much deliberation, I have chosen the following handful. Some have been questing after my work with diligence and longevity, while others managed to hit me with really fascinating designs or descriptions. For one reason or another, these requests caught my eye. So in no particular order: Diadexxus - Completed : One-Day. Blackberry Dragon - Completed : One-Day. Garr - Completed : 1/2 Day. Nemmy - Completed : 1/2 Day. FireDrake : 1/2 Day. I'm keeping the rest of you letter writers on a list for later. - Like I said, it wasn't easy to narrow down... in many cases it was a close call. I'll be contacting you all individually by email within the next day or two, as I have a flood of remaining questions for both those mentioned above and those not... after I get some sleep, that is. I need sleep badly. Again, if you don't see your name above, just be patient. Thanks again. You all rock! -Skadjer

Was, by and large, the most hectic convention yet in my experience. There never seemed enough time to do anything, nor to share time with anyone, to the degree I desired. Yes, I had fun......... but damn. ![]() Anyway, lotsa you likely await these five images from the dragon panel. So here ya go: By definition these are all NSFW. Do enjoy. Current Mood:

Trying to learn spirituality with only the world of formalized religion as your guide is kinda like learning film editing solely from the scraps upon a cutting room floor. 16th October 2007

: 'Scuse Me a Moment, While I Geek Out....
This is why I consider Eric Goldberg to be, easily, candidate for the most skilled animator alive today: Carnival of the Animals He animated this sequence solo, and it's no wonder.. every frame counts. I've likely watched the thing 30 times this sitting and have yet to spot a single flaw. His individual drawings, how they connect together to form movement, and to efficiently communicate an idea, are so striking, so beautiful... and they stem from an uncannily mathematical precision. It goes by in the blink of an eye, but it's all there. This was designed to be viewed on an Imax screen, yet even in this lo-res Youtube feed, it's all there. Hit the pause button at any moment and you've got a perfect composition. Not a feather, not a line out of place. Even when every flamingo is flying on a different trajectory.. even when all their legs are sticking out at odd angles, it's a perfect composition. And his line control doesn't end with the single drawing. Oh no, the motions themselves are every bit as exquisite. ...It's also entertaining to watch. Let us not forget that this goes a long way. Yes, his level of output consistently resides at this quality, but rarely is he given an opportunity to just show off, have fun, and truly demonstrate what he's capable of. Mr. Goldberg, you've never met a deserving employer. Current Mood:
