Most times nature is beautiful. We have gorgeous sunshine, beautiful mountains, oceans, lakes and rivers, woods and deserts. We love to be outside enjoying these. However there is a danger in anything we do. Nature has a way of catching us  unaware, causing injury and even death. Here also we have carnivorous flowers, and those that scratch and poke us. Accidents happen all the time. Here I present one of the deadliest flowers you don’t want to get near.

The Angel Trumpet

***

From a Wiki article:

Angel’s trumpet is a very poisonous plant, causing intense hallucinations, seizures, and even death in the most severe cases. This plant can also cause poisoning through various routes. You can get poisoned by touching, inhaling, or eating almost any part of an angel’s trumpet.

***

I saw these for sale outside a grocery store one day. There was no warning sign on them at all.

These are called Angel Trumpet, and they do come in different colors. A very dramatic flower, but very poisonous as they are a member of the nightshades, so do not eat, and handle with care – wash your hands after touching them.

About 10 white trumpet shaped flowers on a tall stalk of green

***

Touching this beauty could end in death

One sniff of her with your last breath

This Angel’s horn could surely sound

So you’d be raised up off the ground

Nature has her fatal flaw

That is her supreme law

The Levitating Mirror – A True Ghost Story

***

Ready for another strange story of mine? I did post this one before, on October 31, 2017. It’s about a mirror that was in the house here, and it really happened.

my photo of a bright moon shining through branches of a tree on a foggy night.

True Ghost Story for Halloween

***

This is a true ghost story. It happened in the house we live in now.

THE LEVITATING MIRROR

Levitate, levitation, levitating…to rise or float in the air esp. in seeming defiance of gravitation; the act or process of levitating – esp. the rising or lifting of a person or thing by means held to be supernatural.

Our bedroom mirror levitated…by itself!

We’ve lived here in this house for quite a few years, now, and we are only the second family to have lived here. We met the previous owners, and they are not weird, and no horrible thing ever occurred in this house, that we were made aware of. It’s just that the paranormal seems to follow me around, no matter which house I’m in.

The mirror in question, was a used one…one of those kind of tall ones that fit onto a dresser. It wasn’t bolted on, though, just propped up against the wall, and dresser top. The dresser was covered with all kinds of junk that accumulates, such as papers, bills, a glass lazy-susan that held coins, pens, watches, and miscellaneous items. There was a box of papers, a piggy bank, a belt, some cards…well, the whole top was covered in stuff.

I was sitting in the dining room, doing some scrap booking. The bedroom where the mirror was, was one wall away and in front of me. We have four cats, but they were all sleeping in the far back bedroom. It was quiet in the house…no TV on, no music playing. Suddenly, I hear a terrible crash coming from the bedroom. I went to see what it was. I found that the mirror had fallen onto the carpeted floor, and shattered.

What was so strange was that absolutely nothing in the bedroom or on top of the dresser had been disturbed at all! Not one thing had fallen off to the floor. There was no way the mirror could have just fallen frontwards in the first place, because of all the stuff on the top of the dresser. It couldn’t have slipped from the bottom, either, as it would have knocked off the stuff.

All I can believe, is that somehow, the only way…the only way this happened, was that the mirror levitated itself, going up and over the things, silently, then turned itself sideways to the dresser, then crashed down onto the floor. That’s when I heard the crash! I ran in, and saw it laying on the floor, sideways to the dresser, mirror glass side down…on carpet. The sound of breaking glass had been loud, though!

What is also surprising, is that it did not scare me at all. I was just like, well, gotta clean up the glass shards. I’ve gotten so used to objects flying around the houses I’ve been in, that it has become the normal thing. I had a bit of a time, trying to get that mirror up off the floor, as it was pretty heavy. I couldn’t just lift it up and take it out. I had to drag it all the way through the house and out to the garage. It stayed out there for a long, long time; we just recently got rid of it. Nothing else ever happened with it.

That incident was only one of several, here in this house. I’ll tell more in another post, and also things that happened in other houses I’ve lived in.

Hope your household goods stay put, because mine sure don’t!

Witchy Fun

***

This is a poem I wrote for October Poetry Writing Month, way back in 2014.

There are a lot of TV and movie witches that have brought us fun entertainment over the years.

Being it’s Halloween again, I thought I’d re-post it. Enjoy! 🙂

***

WITCHY FUN

From Oz to Salem, to suburban mayhem,

The witches entertained us all.

The witch of the west, was creepy at best,

And Glinda was belle of the ball.

Samantha twitched her nose,

Whenever she chose, and

Sabrina’s cat talks to her, it is true.

Elphaba was wicked,

Endora was vivid…

They all were an interesting crew.

The Sanderson sisters were funny and camp,

The witches of Eastwick were duped…

They all used their craft, and a bit of their vamp,

But Morticia’s my all favorite champ.

~

Shows referenced = Bewitched, The Wizard of Oz, The Addams Family, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Hocus Pocus, The Witches of Eastwick, and Wicked (broadway play)

Takes what he wants by Hell’s Gate

Taken by one who feeds

Dirty deeds in the reeds

Demon possessed

He never confessed

Ghosts towns buried beneath the water

Pickwick souls still roam and holler

Big Foot sightings, cults and more

Rattlesnakes too, slither galore

These are just a few spooky things you’ll find

Just don’t be alone, or left behind.

“Possum Kingdom”, by The Toadies, was released in 1994, from their album, “Rubberneck”. It was written by Todd Lewis.

~note~ This song, from what I read, is about folklore and cult activities heard here in Texas around the actual Possum Kingdom Lake (North Texas near Ft. Worth)  The singer/songwriter, Todd Lewis, says he just made up the song lyrics, but had heard all the ghostly stories since forever, which gave him the idea for the song. My Dad and Uncles always went fishing there years ago.

For Di’s challenge:

Fibbing Friday 30th October 2026

***

1. Why does garlic repel vampires? … Because garlic cloves kind of look like big fangs, and the Vampire doesn’t want to tangle with them.

2. What do you need to kill a werewolf? … You need the moon to phase into crescent shape. That will be the end of the werewolf. Until the next full moon.

3. What is the purpose of a Jack-o-lantern? … To grin in the face of danger from werewolves and other creatures

4. What exactly is a ghoul? … A ghoul is a cool dude – a model of a fashion setter of the realm of goblins.

5. Why can’t vampires enter a home unless invited? … Because of the guard dogs at the door. They will use ‘their’ fangs to bite him before he uses his fangs to bite his humans. But if the humans invite him in, all is okay.

6. Why can’t vampires cross running water? … He’s like the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz – he will melt if he gets wet.

7. What does a chupacabra eat? … Candles of all kinds. That’s where he got his name, from candelabra. He goes around extinguishing all the light from candles.

8. What is the name of the three-headed dog that guards the gates of the underworld? … Their names are Spot, Fido, & Brownie.

9. Who are the Stygian Witches? … They are a sewing circle that make quilts, getting together once a week to sew.

10. What alcoholic beverage is thought to be the true origin of witches’ brew? …   A Grasshopper or Mint Julep

A story was told of the old days, that happened in Marathon Texas. As a prisoner carriage was traveling the open land toward Huntsville Prison, a bat flew at the horses, biting one’s nose. It left a cherry colored bump. Continuing on their way down the ribbon of dusty trail to their destination, they took the injured horse to the vet. He was found to be okay, no rabies detected.

Here’s a poem I wrote in 2016 for a poetry challenge. It could be true or fiction. I chose to write about my fan fiction character feeling remorse at what he’d done.  He was realizing there was no way to dodge his acts against his friend.

***

REMORSE

I’m so sorry

I know that is not enough.

I could apologize again, and again and

Even if you forgave me, I could never forgive myself

For what I have done to you.

How do I beg forgiveness from a spirit as loving as you?

You must have felt I was not proud of you, that I didn’t love you

Anymore.

I betrayed your love for me, I know that, now.

I never deserved to have your love, when all I ever did was

Cause you pain, hurt you…

Why…why couldn’t I have treated you better?

You are gone, yet your spirit  surrounds me…

Mocks me…

I tried being the friend and lover you so desperately needed.

I killed our love…

I killed our love…

I killed you…

SPIDER DANCE

Weave your web of love around me

Seduce me with your words, sublime

Silken strands to hold and bind me

Capture me…I’ll call you mine…

Spin your web in sticky spirals

Lure me with your lyrics, love…

Come closer…come get me.

Dance with me, my Spider…dance…

Be wanton with your wildness,

Pierce me with your poisonous lance,

Our rebel love is reckless.

Have you ever taken a chance on something? It could be taking a chance of luck on a lottery ticket, on a carnival game, a hand of cards you feel lucky about. Maybe you bet on the horse races, or pro athletics competitions. Maybe you have taken a chance on a romantic relationship. All seem fun and exciting, but they are all also very risky. You could lose your money or your love for someone. How about physical risks? There is danger in lots of activities. You don’t really want to crash and burn, wipe out, or lose face when you try and fail, but they are reckless things to do sometimes when we don ‘t think them through first. Then sometimes, you don’t want to weigh the consequences. You just want to jump in and see what happens.

Here’s a song that is saying this. She is taking a chance on an unknown, a person she feels is the right one for her, but time will tell. Others tell her to not be reckless, don’t take a risk, but she follows her heart.
