Meet the Wise-Man
I thought you might like to see my adorable little wise man from the family Christmas pageant.
Here we all are – our baby made the perfect Christ-child.
He just sat in the manger so sweetly and quietly
and our wiseman so cheerfully delivered the gifts
The aunts and uncles performed their roles admirably,
but, well, I think it’s safe to say that these two unabashedly stole the show.
There was also a show-stopping lion in the pageant – a class-act performer, if I’ve ever seen one – but I don’t have a picture of her 😦
More things Marshall says
So, he said these first two about 6 months ago, and I wrote them down because I thought he was adorable. These phrases are still cute, but they were probably cuter when he was six months younger and just barely putting long phrases together.
“Marshall: “Carpet. That’s what we need, Mommy. Carpet. And a movie or … half of a movie. A movie about dragons. Is there a movie about dragons, Mommy?”
Me: Yes, dear. There is
Marshall: Is it very scary?
Me: Yes dear. It is very scary.
Marshall: No, it’s just a little scary.”
“Me: Marshall, I love you. You are so cute.
Marshall: Mommy, I love you. You are so big and so strong and so big and SO strong and SO … BIG!
Me: Thank you.
Marshall: Apples are cold. And squirrels eat acorns.”
And then today, he gave his father a hug and said, “Good night, sweetheart!”
The post about Halloween – finally!
You didn’t think I’d ever get around to this, did ya?
Well, it’s been six months and here I am, ready to show you the darling Halloween costumes.
If you remember this post you remember that we had a Captain Hook and Mr. Smee and that our Halloween was broken up into two different nights; the Trunk-or-Treat and the actual holiday:
Here the boys are on the night of the Trunk-or-Treat (an event hosted by our church in the church parking lot).
Captain Hook was feeling a bit under the weather, which is probably the only reason he let me put that wig on his head. Although it didn’t last long.
And Mr. Smee was surprisingly tolerant of his sideburns.

About half way through the trunk-or-treat Captain Hook laid down and went to sleep

Passerby children were concerned about the “dead pirate” in the parking lot

But Mr. Smee remained his ever-faithful side-kick

By the time we got home he was sporting a fever of one-oh-three

Poor baby. Oh, and don’t worry, I didn’t let him sleep on the ground for too long.
So the first Halloween was a bust. Fortunately, the second one wasn’t.

Notice Hook’s trick-or-treat bucket – it is Tinkerbell trapped in the lantern

I couldn’t get Mr. Smee to stop playing with the grass and look at my camera, but he still looked darling.

isn’t Hook adorable? I am so pleased with the way his costume turned out. Did you notice the spats? How about his hook? I made it from felt so he couldn’t accidentally use it as a weapon. His coat is made from felt as well so I didn’t have to hem anything.

We went trick-or-treating to a few homes on our street and were home before sunset. We still pulled in a pretty good haul.
Then we watched Beauty and the Beast until bedtime (and the other trick-or-treaters stopped ringing our doorbell)

Mr. Smee wasn’t too interested in the movie so he squatted by the front door and helped me hand out candy.

All in all, it turned out to be a pretty great Halloween. And, it was actually my first time going trick-or-treating door to door in a neighborhood. Where I grew up, in the country, we had to drive from house to house. This way was much faster and a little more exciting because we got to see other children out doing the same thing we were. Fun!
Having the ability to make Halloween costumes for my children was the initial reason I took up sewing. It is also the most fun project I can imagine. I think I already have this year’s costumes planned! 😀
Marshall’s 3rd Birthday
Well, you’ve seen the birthday festivities – the pumpkin patch and the amusement park,
now it is time for the actual day:
It started with the traditional birthday breakfast
and ended with the traditional cake
His birthday cake was inspired by the book ‘Goodnight Goon”
(a favorite of his)
you can see more about the cake here.
I made his shirt by cutting apart two different tee-shirts
Marshall’s birthday celebration
To celebrate for Marshall’s 3rd birthday
we went to a small carnival place as a family
mostly so he could ride the horse
he took his job of driving the airplanes and boat very seriously
