i am not normally a fan of television commercials.  a team has to be extremely punchy, witty and artistic to move me in any way.  so you will understand my admiration for the precision, dedication and utter genius of this japanese smartphone commerical. the team engineered a massive xylophone to run down the slope of a forest hill. a wooden ball, rolling down the length of said instrument plays Bach’s jesu, joy of man’s desiring! amazing – yes.

Abandoned

I am ashamed to say I abandoned my blog last…
I started a new job and have been working full time and trying to sneak in freelance work in the evenings. So the sometimes zoo was neglected, horribly neglected.  However, neglect can be something quite beautiful and poetic, as these lonely places will testify:

“german artist julius von bismark teamed up with swiss photographer julian charriÃĻre in this controversial live art installation: a “pigeon-apparatus” was created for the Venice Architecture Biennial on a city rooftop. When the birds flew into it, they were trapped and airbrushed various colors in non-toxic paint before being released back over the city.”

i went to see the new disney-pixar film, brave, this week…twice!  it was brilliant – no – better than brilliant.  i am currently working on some comissioned drawings about a bear and a girl, so it was the perfect inspiration!  go and see it, it is just lovely…

snow in the south…

we don’t get too much snow in south africa, at least not many areas outside of the highest mountains ranges.  but the past two days has seen unprecedented snowfall in places that haven’t seen snow in 30 years!  i am hoping to go snow-hunting tomorrow…

this bewildered chap was photographed at the johannesburg zoo yesterday, showing an expression shared by most everyone as flakes began to fall…
