Bayeux Tapestry – Baa-Ewe Tapestry

Standard

The Bayeux Tapestry
is an embroidered cloth nearly 70m long and 50cm tall.
It depicts the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England
and the Battle of Hastings 1066.
It is normally thought to have been made in England
in the decades after the events it shows,
although the earliest known written reference to it was in 1476.

Since 2007 it has been inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register.

It is normally displayed in the Bayeux Tapestry Museum in Bayeux, Normandy, France,
but this is closed for renovation until 2027,
and the work is currently on display in London
in the British Muesum.

I however love ‘Shaun the Sheep‘

the new film is out this year.

called ‘The Beast of Mossy Bottom‘

Inspired by the Bayeux tapestry

a team of 15 made the Baa-Ewe Tapestry.

It was displayed in the Natural history museum,

where I saw it.

I loved it!

Beautifully stitched ♥

So much fun!

Bavaria Visit

Standard

Bavaria, a county in Germany has wonderful countryside.

In Upper Bavaria are beautiful lakes.

We had a little tour on the lovely Ammersee

from Diessen,

a picturesque fishing village with lots of flowers,

to Herrsching.

We have seen Steingaden,

a beautiful little village,

with lovely decorations.

It has an old Abbey from 1147.

It is no more used as a cloister.

It had a beautiful restful church garden with benches.

This is my favourite little village

dreamy, clean, spacious with a great bakery,

lovely shops, a museum,

and a good Greek Restaurant.

The next trip was to another old beautiful Abbey

in Rottenbuch.

Its’ church tower is totally separate.

A further trip went to a moor,

called the Premer Filz (raised bog)

where they used to take peat from.

It is still boggy and it was fun going through it.

Now it is a protected nature reserve.

I found beautiful little blooms there.

A legend says:
to get safely through the moor
you must not turn round.
If you do turn round
a giant will grab you
and pull you into the depth.

Bavaria has so many different fantastic views

and we had a wonderful time there.

A coffee break

in my favourite open coffee shop

was necessary too ♥
