Hello Friends!

This week in my art journal, I used some Inktense pencils to draw grass and bushes. But I didn’t add water to them. They work better than colored pencils on these slick book pages.

Then, I randomly cut out some shapes from wrapping paper, magazine pages, and a calendar to add flowers, the sun, and a hiker to Cezanne’s paintings.

I am going slowly in this journal as I have not been feeling very well this week. I hope you all are doing well, though!

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

Hello Friends!

It has been a little while since my last post. I guess I felt stuck artistically for a bit. Plus, we recently moved and have been settling in the last few weeks.

So, I decided to begin working on this journal again. On the left side, I painted a variation of Cezanne’s painting “Flowers in Olive Jar.”

On the right side, I painted around and enhanced the women in one of his many “Bather” paintings.

I loved working with these colors. I like the pinks I created on the right brightening up the dark vase on the left.

I also used some stencils and stickers. So this was a fun page to do.

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

Hello Friends!

I enjoyed experimenting on this page. When I paint with acrylics, I use pallet paper so I can toss it after. However, sometimes I let little puddles and smears of mixed paint dry completely. Then, I can tear them off and glue them down in my journal.

On this page those pieces look like dirt, grass, and sky, so it was fun to play with. Then I just enhanced his paintings by adding color and one piece of a painting of a man that he did.

I love creating art journals, because I feel like I can experiment and play so much more than when I am creating a bigger painting. If you’ve never tried art journaling, I would encourage you to research different ways to create one. It’s a lot of fun!

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

Hello Friends!

Since the next two pages in this book were pictures of Cezanne’s works, “Pots of Geraniums” and “Coat on a Chair,” I decided to embellish them and add my own touches.

On the left, I painted red over his green geraniums and enhanced the pots, added some Naples yellow to his background, painted my own blue geraniums with Green Gold for the leaves and added Ultramarine blue all around.

Then, on the right side, I painted the coat in blues and browns. I also enhanced the chair and the floors baseboard with lighter browns. I added some flowered Washi Tape to the top and bottom and painted the background with Naples yellow and also mixed in some Green Gold.

I enjoyed creating this page! I did find out, however, that my fluid acrylic paints need to be replaced as well as the smallest paint brushes I used. So, I guess it’s time to browse online!

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug! 😃

Hello Friends!

I attempted to paint Paul Cezanne on the left page from one of his self-portaits. And I found it very hard to get the shape of his mostly bald head right! But hey, I tried.

I painted the portrait on the right from a black and white photograph of him when he was younger. In the picture, his eyes look wide, but I overemphasized them, ha ha!

I painted both of these in one sitting which took longer than I planned. However, instead of striving for perfection, I instead just enjoy the process!

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

Hello Friends!

I used Absorbent Ground to prepare this page so I could paint it with watercolors.

First, I used charcoal to draw the sun, bush, flowers, and trees, I used watercolors and acrylics to paint them. Then, I used calligraphy markers to draw and color the houses and accent the clouds.

However, I studied a couple of Cezanne’s landscape paintings and sort of copied the shapes of the houses. Also, I didn’t worry about the perspective in how I drew things either.

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug. 😀

Hello Friends!

I enjoyed creating this page! I started out collaging pieces of some of Cezanne’s art that I had torn out of the pages in this book. Then, as I began painting with these colors, I felt happier and happier! So as I painted, smiley faces kept popping up all over. You may have to zoom in to see them, though.

I hope you all have a beautiful Sunday and have something to smile about.

Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😁

Hello Friends!

I am excited to share what I did on this page. On the left side, there was a picture of a portrait Cezanne painted called “The Negro Scipio.” He was painted sitting on a chair backwards, and the way he’s positioned leaning over the back of the chair with his arm hanging down, made me think of a tree. Cezanne also painted lots of apples, so I turned the person into an apple tree! Fun!

The painting on the right is called “The Artist’s Father Reading His Newspaper.” I glued down some dark handmade tan paper strips on the top and bottom. Then, I used acrylic inks for drips and lightly brushed down through them. I used acrylic inks with a couple of sponges to create the leaves and clouds.

Lastly, I added some chalk strokes to the mountains above on the right of the page.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this page! I love doing mixed media because there are so many possibilities!

Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

Hello Friends!

Yesterday, I decided I wanted to paint with more watercolors in my art journal. So, I decided to prepare the page with more of Golden’s Absorbent Ground. Then, instead of using my tube watercolors, I chose to use my Winsor & Newton Watercolour Markers.

I did rough copies of Cezanne’s two watercolor paintings. The one on the left is called Apples, Carafe, and Sugar Bowl”.

The one on the right is called Seated Woman (Madame Cezanne).”

My perspective on his still life is off, but what I enjoyed most about painting these was blending the colors. It is a challenging task with these markers. They have a rounded end and a brush-shaped end. But I like how bold the blues and greens are.

On my next page, I may use my acrylic inks and/or acrylic paints with some collage. I haven’t decided yet. I will just sit and see where my muse takes me!

Have a wonderful day, and give someone you love a big hug! 😀

Hello Friends!

Yesterday morning I was looking in a book I picked up used at the library for a couple of dollars. It is called Cezanne in the Studio, Still Life in Watercolors by Carol Armstrong.

One of his watercolor paintings that she focuses on is called Still Life With Blue Pot. I got the idea for my abstract watercolor from studying just a blown up detail of his painting. The close-up looks like it could be an abstract in and of itself, which intrigued me.

I used similar colors and shapes, but mine is different as in my colors are much brighter. He used a lot more blue and orange. I veered more towards adding greens, golds, reds, and purples in mine.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this page in my Cezanne Art Journal. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Have a wonderful day and give someone you love a big hug! 😀
