A Hidden English Gem

Edington’s majestic Priory church towers over this enchanting little village, tucked beneath the escarpment on the edge of Salisbury Plain. Built in the 14th century by former Bishop of Winchester William of Edington, the Grade I listed building is now Wiltshire’s only perfect monastic church. Since 1956, supporters from far and wide have been helping local people to restore, maintain and improve this remarkable building.

70th Anniversary Year!

The Friends celebrate their 70th Anniversary this year!   Canon Ralph Dudley, our founder in 1956, left quite a legacy.

Since then, our supporters and members have helped raise funds to enable the PCC to make repairs and refurbishments that have made the beautiful building what it is today.

The Lewis Monument is currently undergoing inspection and work by conservators, having discovered some quite severe damage earlier in the year.   We will publish an article with photos when we know more.

We now have a Virtual Tour to help when you visit the church – or fancy a tour online.   (You might have noticed a link as you scrolled down and there is another link to it at the top of the screen.)  Hopefully it will transport you into our wonderful building, giving all sorts of information and history and tempt you all the more to come and visit and experience its peace and tranquility for yourself.   The church is open from early to late every day.
