Ow! My body hurts...Medic!

Kalei's Karate studio is having their 10 year anniversary and to celebrate the are offering a 10 classes for $10 special so I decided it was time to see how strong I really am...physically. I did it. I joined Tae Kwon Do and had my first class. It totally whipped my butt! The instructor knows me from bringing Kalei to her classes and activities so I think he did harder exercises just for me. He kept asking in the past when I would join and I kept putting it off. Well, I guess it's payback time. He made me do superman push-ups which, I surprisingly could do! I probably did it wrong, but at least I didn't do the wimpy lady push-ups. I held my body weight! Every part of my body was screaming and begging for me to stop and that I was too old for this. I had to prove myself wrong. I accomplished my first class and was very proud of myself. Nine more classes to go before I decide if I want to continue my training. What will Kahea do? Tha saga continues... (And NO! There will be no photo posted of me in my Karate uniform. I look like a marshmallow. I'm sure you get the picture.)

The Karate Kid

So, a lot has happened with Kalei. In our last blog about her, she was just starting out as a white belt. With a lot of hard work she has climbed the ladder to becoming a Decided Green Belt. She has accomplished white, orange, yellow, and 2 camo belts and now on her 2nd green belt. After recieving the yellow belt each belt after that takes 6 months to move on to another color. She's determined to become a Black Belt. I am so proud of her courage, determination, and especially commitment to Tae Kwon Do. She is AWESOME! Concentrate, Daniel-san! I mean, Kalei-san!

Ikaika's Transformer Birthday Party

Ikaika turned 4 on March 23rd and we decided to have his birthday party on Saturday, the 20th. He asked for a Transformer party. It was a challenge to find enough party games and souveniers to cater to a younger age group. Ikaika had invited 10 children; all from preschool and church. I did the table in red, blue, and black tablecloths and balloons. I bought a Optimus Prime centerpiece and used Ikaika's toy Transformers as decoration also. Of course it wouldn't have been complete without a pinata! Ikaika went nuts when he saw this Optimus Prime pinata at Wal-Mart. He was kind of weary about letting his friends hit Optimus Prime but he got over it quickly. The kids took turns hitting this pinata for about 40 minutes! Optimus Prime held strong. He would not die! Finally, daddy found a soft spot for the kids to hit and he broke open spilling yummy treats! It was a great day for all, especially Ikaika!

Tae Kwon Do

Kalei is enrolled in Tae Kwon Do. The American Tae Kwon Do Association (A.T.A). She's been doing it for 4 weeks and loves it. She has great form and shows potential to attain her Black Belt. Aside from learning form and techniques, she's learning life skills: respect, confidence, perserverance, loyalty, self-discipline, courage, focus, etc. She enjoys her weekly lessons and we enjoy seeing her incredible progress and transformation in such a short time. Kalei is a sweetheart but mess with her, and you'll be wishing you hadn't!

A Visit to the Georgia Aquarium

The kids really enjoyed this trip. There was so much amazement and wonder in their eyes. They loved learning about the Beluga Whales and the Whale Shark but the favorite was the different species of Jellyfish and how graceful they were in movement and even in the killing of their prey.

My Little Man

Introducing the Stud-Muffin himself: Ikaika Tomberlin! He's so much fun to have around. He will be turning 3 years old in March and each day we see the transition from "baby" to "little boy". Although he's still having a difficult time giving up the pacifier... He talks so much and so often that I kinda like having the paci to quiet him down at times. (I'm a bad mother, I know!) He speaks very well and many people notice how grown up he's becoming. Awwww... I'm losing my baby!

FACEBOOK

Jon and I have Facebook accounts so look us up there if I don't update this blog. And if you don't have an account with Facebook, please join so we can all be connected. We are OHANA!

Extra Curricular Activities

I haven't been keeping up with my blog because of the kids school and extra activities. Kalei joined Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts and a Junior Cooking Class, and Kanoe starts her voice lessons on Monday. I am desperately trying to get them into piano lessons but everyone seems to be booked at the moment. We are on waiting lists. The girls' will also be on a swim team with our Home-owners Association called "The Manta-Rays". We are excited for the kids to be involved in so much. Ikaika may be going to daycare or playgroup once or twice a week for the social aspect. The kids seem to be adjusting fairly well to life in the suburbs.

Jon's Birthday ~ Feb. 3

The kids and I planned a fun party for Jon at home. The girl's came home from school and eagerly got started on decorating the house with streamers and balloons. Ikaika chose the streamer colors: Blue, like Thomas the Tank Engine, and Green, like Thomas' friend, Percy. They all blew up balloons and strategically placed them all around the diningroom and greatroom. Then they all had ideas of how the birthday sign should look. They all drew and colored so thoughtfully. I made brownies (Jon doesn't like cake...) and stacked them to look somewhat like a wedding cake. The kids' put colored candles all over the "cake tower". We ordered take-out from Chili's, which is Jon's favorite, and we waited for daddy to come home. When we heard the garage door open, we lit the candles, turned off the lights, and hid. "Surprise! Happy Birthday!" We hope Jon enjoyed his party because we sure enjoyed preparing for it. Sorry y'all had to miss it!
