About HydrokenoelsmoreiteHide

Formula:
◻2W2O6(H2O)
Alternative formula based on data obtained by Mills et al. (2016) for 3C and 6R polytypes:
(◻,Na,H2O)2(W,Fe3+,Al)2(O,OH)6·H2O.
Colour:
White, black, dark green, yellowish, brownish
Lustre:
Adamantine
Hardness:
3
Crystal System:
Isometric
Name:
Originally called elsmoreite, for the Elsmore tin mine and/or the town of Elsmore, Australia. It was renamed in 2010 according to the nomenclature for the pyrochlore supergroup. The name elsmoreite was promoted to group level and this species was renamed to indicate its membership in the group, with dominant water and a vacancy (keno).
Formerly called elsmoreite (if chemically pure) or ferritungstite (Fe-bearing variety, with W>Fe) or alumotungstite (Al-bearing variety; W>Al).
V- and Cr-rich varieties with black colour are known from the Clara mine, Black Forest.

See also hydroplumboelsmoreite (formerly jixianite).

The recent crystallochemical data (Mills et al., 2016) was obtained from material ("elsmoreite", formerly known as "ferritungstite") from Hemerdon mine (now Drakelands mine) in Devon, UK. The 3C and 6R polytypes were recognized (see hydrokenoelsmoreite-3C and hydrokenoelsmoreite-6R).
