New Hood, Deep Roots

After 16 years on Truxtun Avenue, Moo now calls 18th and Q our new home. This building has history baked into every brick. It first opened in 1928 as the New China Cafe, designed by local architect Clarence Cullimore and run by George Toy, who was born across the street and spent his childhood exploring these very blocks.

The original tile, Flemish bond brickwork, and character of the space have stood strong through decades of change. We’re proud to bring it back to life with fresh energy, a full bakery, and the kind of scratch-made food Bakersfield knows us for.

We’re proud to carry on the spirit of this corner of Bakersfield by filling it with scratch-made food, neighborhood hospitality, and the kind of place where people gather and come back again.
