Just a few pics of Nathan – can’t believe he was smiling, even though mama wasn’t around. He’s such a mama’s boy, guess she’s got the good stuff. She’s at work tonight, so its a treat for me to get a smile.
We’ve been celebrating Halloween all week. On Monday it was at the Riverton Halloween Festival where the boys played games and watched “Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin” in the park. On Friday Jed had a costume parade at school. That afternoon they came trick-or-treating to my work. Then the real trick-or-treating on Saturday. Kind of a mixed bag with costumes. Jed was a Transformer, Porter was Darth Maul, and Nathan was Master Yoda!

Felt like a little Mexican food today so we met Cary at Los Hermanos in Lindon. Hot eats cool treats . . . Just like Dairy Queen only better . . . And Mexican.

We took a short-notice trip over Conference Weekend back to Colorado for Nathan’s blessing. The trip was short but special for our family. Cary and Amy’s family were able to join via video conference (sorry for the technical difficulties). We really appreciated everyone participating on such short notice. Here are a few pics from the weekend:

A little over two years ago, we were looking for a car. This sporty little BMW caught my eye and swept me away. As with all of our cars, we had to figure out its name. We’ve had Violet the Toyota truck, Ruby the Land Rover, Francis the Accord, and Misty May the Toyota SUV. It wasn’t too long before we had named the BMW after Niles Crane’s high maintenance wife Maris on the old TV show Frasier. Elegant, sporty, luxurious, and oh how high maintenance! It was a love hate relationship for 29 months as I loved how it hugged the road and could pass most of the cars on the highway and then left me sitting in a parking lot somewhere. Cam shaft position sensor, control arm bushings, fuel pump, fuel guage sending unit, power steering pump, water pump, plus the normal things like brakes/rotors, tires, and gas.
Two weeks ago the Misty May was in the shop for new cat converters, so we all piled in Maris to take Nathan to Colorado for his blessing. It was tight, but we all fit and boy did Maris run! I told Megan how much I loved driving her around the curves through Price Canyon and Cotchetopa Pass. The trip was really good (still have photos to post), and the trip home went really well until we were almost home. Thirteen miles above Spanish Fork in Price Canyon, we hit a rock that had fallen off the mountain in the rain – it was the size of a 3-gallon water bottle. Yep, we went up and on top of the rock as it hit the oil pan, transmission, drive line, exhaust system, and fuel tank. The collision didn’t wake the boys sleeping the back and didn’t deploy the airbags, but it sure made a mess underneath. Jordan came and rescued us off the road and got us home – Thanks Jordan!!!
Thursday night the insurance company called to let us know that they were going to total Maris :-(. The repair estimate was in excess of $8,000. In a 2 minute call, they told me she’d expired before even getting to the operating room and that I needed to collect belongings shortly becuase she was being rushed to the morgue! I think I need grief counseling.
In the TV show, Niles was really broken up when Maris divorced him. But it all worked out well because he then got to marry his brother’s housekeeper, Daphne Moon (who had secretly liked him for years). I just can’t figure out what kind of car my new Daphne will be . . .

Nothing like going into Costco for good produce and coming out with a box of half-eaten tomatoes (Porter calls them pomatos). Between the time I put the tomatoes in the truck and I had a chance to buckle Porter, he had taken the lid off the tomato box and taken a single bite out of two precious tomatoes. Guess it beats halloween candy!

Free pizza and cookies, kids checking out the fire trucks, a jumping room and a dunk tank. Not bad for free entertainment for the boyz on a Saturday afternoon.

So last week I finally mustered enough courage to go to the dentist. I’ve had a tooth that has just been killing me, but memories of a former dentis putting his knee on my chest for leverage as he pulled my wisdom teeth kept me from getting an appointment. Those unresolved childhood memories are hard to put down . . . 🙂
I finf myself a dentist and show up for the appointment. He asks which tooth hurts, but I can’t precicely identify it, so he starts tapping on them with his surgical steel ice pick. When I nearly pass out, he says “ah, its molar 29” and snaps an x-ray. He comes back in a few minutes later to tell me that I need a serious root canal, but he doesn’t do root canal and will refer me to whichever endodontist will get me in for an emergency procedure.
A couple of hours later, I find the endodontist’s office – I should have gone into dentistry! I identify the office because of the bright yellow Porsche out front with the personalized license plate “MR TEETH.”. Turns out the guy is my age, has a partner also my age and they see 3 – 5 clients per day at $1,000 each. Guess they can afford yellow cars with vanity plates . . .
After we were about halfway through the root canal procedure, I hear him muttering “oh, that wasn’t very good.”. A few minutes later he said the same thing and then took some more x-rays. Then he indicates that he’s broken off one of the roots and poked a serious hole in another one. I try to ask for options but can’t speak because of the rubber wedge holding my jaws apart. Extraction (not as in genealogy) or he could open up my gum, remove the broken root and clean up the wreckage. I opted for the latter option and walked away 2 hours later with a 1-inch incision in my gum, 6 stitches, and a Loritab perscription . . .
Long weekend. The swelling is gone and I’m down to just takine Advil while I wait fr the stitches to disolve. Oh, did I forget to mention that I still have to go back to my original dentist for a crown? See why I only go to the dentist every 10 years 🙂
