What is VRML2Wld?

VRML2Wld is a program which converts VRML 1.0 files to Morfit compatible .wld files.
These .wld can be used in the Morfit World Builder as (reusable) objects or for immediate
use when programming with the Morfit SDK. Many 3D editors can export to VRML 1.0 and all kinds
of models can be found in this format on the World Wide Web.

Why?

OK, there are various formats which can be converted to .wld files (.3ds) or can be used
directly by the engine (.raw and .x). The problem is that I use Pixel3D for creating models.
When I use quads in Pixel3D and convert them to .3ds, I end up with triangles. And try using
textures on triangles in World Builder; they look distorted. Now, Pixel3D also has a VRML Save
option. VRML does support quads so I started building a converter.

What can VRML2Wld do?

VRML2Wld can read the Coordinate3 vertex array and the IndexedFaceSet of a VRML 1.0 file.
(Remember that these are defined differently in VRML 97, so it may or may not work with this
new VRML version). In short, these list all the vertices in a model and a summary of which
vertices form together a polygon. It can't (yet) read VRML primitives like box or sphere.
Primary reason for this lack of functionality is that you can organize spheres and cubes quite
nicely in World Builder. This program was primarily written for converting relatively complex
models, comprised of triangles and/or quads. Remember that, at this time, it's probably smarter
to use the .3ds converter when it doesn't matter if you end up with triangles in your model.
If you absolutely want to retain the present quads in your model, give this program a try.

How does it work?

That's simple. Just click the Load VRML button and search for a valid VRML (.wrl) file.
When you have, click the convert button. Depending on the size of the model you'll see the
right progressbar going up. When this reaches the top, the program automatically writes a
Morfit .wld file called output.wld in the same directory as the VRML file. Push the Exit button
to exit. Done!!!

Bugs?
Well, it heavily depends on the complexity of the VRML model whether or not this program will
succeed in converting. If it does not succeed, try reducing the polygon count or number of
vertices. Also, make sure the vertices are listed in a clockwise order. If this is not the
case, you will end up with reversed polygons. It also seems that World Builder doesn't accept
polygons that exceed a certain number of vertices. I'm looking into these problems at this time.
For the rest, I'm pretty sure that this program doesn't hang your computer or makes it explode.
