October 16, 2026 - Between Show Segments on TV Now: Two Songs from 1962 Involving Five Recording Acts...plus a Bobby Goldsboro Hit
Ford Motors has a current commercial featuring "Get a Little Dirt on Your Hands," recorded in 1962 by The Delltones of Sydney, Australia. The song was composed by South Carolina country singer Bill Anderson, whose original version was released earlier that year. A Fanduel ad makes rocking good use of "I've Been Everywhere" by The All-American Rejects, a remake of the rapid-fire location-dropping 1962 hit by country legend Hank Snow (originally by another popular singer from Sydney, Lucky Starr...a hit "down under" earlier that same year). And a commercial for United Airlines has a strictly American origin: Bobby Goldsboro's "Little Things."
September 27, 2026 - Finding Vintage Delights Courtesy of Practical Magic, By Any Means and Mazda
Here we have songs from days gone by, currently in theaters: Miriam Makeba's classic South African dance track "Pata Pata" is in Practical Magic 2, a sequel someone, somewhere, has been waiting 28 years to see. Mark Wahlberg stars in the '60s-era crime drama By Any Means and it's loaded with tunes from that time: "Baby (You've Got What it Takes)" by Dinah Washington and Brook Benton, "Talking About My Baby" by The Impressions and LaVern Baker's 1962 street corner confession "Saved," in addition to two lesser-known songs by major stars, Ray Charles' "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail (Swingova)" (from the 1965 album Together Again) and Nina Simone's "I Love Your Lovin' Ways" from '66. A pair of no-punches-pulled country hits are also in the mix: Wynn Stewart's workday lament "Another Day, Another Dollar" and Merle Haggard's remorseful "The Bottle Let Me Down."
On home screens, Mazda has unleashed a spot for its latest four-wheel models, set to Johnnie and Joe's irresistible 1956 single "Feel Alright"...though it's mostly played in the background. So drop the needle on a copy...or easier yet, crank it up on whatever streaming site feels right.
