About the author

Nicole Burton is from Los Angeles, California. She graduated from California State University of Long Beach with her B.A in English, Creative Writing and a minor in Sociology.
Her passion for reading developed her love for writing (as many readers).
She believes that there’s a rawness in writing about your own life experience. In choosing to write about her own, she hopes to let her readers know if they are suffering, they are not alone. Mental health is a daily struggle, and it’s okay to be vulnerable— to be heard.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseN.R. Burton got raw and exposed her true feelings of love , heartbreak and how she dealt with letting go of it all. She exposed her pain and how she physically was struggling to stay alive! This touched me to my core! She also showed her road to recovery and how possible it is to overcome anything no matter how hard it is to do. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who wants to see triumph over pain.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2025Format: KindleThis was a wonderfully written book by the author about her struggles and how she overcame them. Some of these poems really touched me deep down and I could share the author's pain. I don't often read poem books, but I am trying to read more and I genuinely enjoyed this one.

It was so raw, vulnerable, powerful and profound!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2024Format: PaperbackThis collection of poetry is heavy, in the best way possible. Two of my favorite poems were The anger inside and Love-Hell.
As you move through the book, N.S. Burton has made you feel every single word she has written. I cried tears of joy and of sadness as I took the journey she created.
it is a rare art for an author to stir up such personal emotions in the reader, but N.S. Has done it tragically and beautifully.
By the end I felt almost a small sense of joy in knowing that those cacophony of feelings I had had so many times before were not just my own.
As a person who suffers from depression this book was so many unexplainable things.
if I had to sum up this novel, I would say that it was beautifully raw and vulnerable.
I highly recommend this novel to anyone looking to not feel alone in their darkness and those who would like to discover just how strong they are in their plight.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2024Format: PaperbackWhat a beautiful, gut wrenching, heartbreaking and hopeful way to express feelings. Poetry is truly an art form that requires a lot of bravery, and this book is a testament to that. A journey through all the emotions an individual may feel when suffering from depression and self harming. A journey of recovery and how it is not easy and it is not pretty. And a hopeful conclusion but not an end demonstrating how life can be beautiful again, that recovery although not perfect is possible.
I truly loved it and will be definitely recommending it. If you love poetry and would love to read this boo make sure to check its trigger warnings. This book discusses topics like: depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation and self-harm. But don't let those keep you away.
Thank you sunnybabepr for recommending this book to me and thank you N.S. Burton for sharing your art with us. I truly loved it.
