Are You Listening?

5つ星のうち4.6 (432)

The graphic novel Are You Listening? is an intimate and emotionally soaring story about friendship, grief, and healing from Eisner Award winner Tillie Walden.

Bea is on the run. And then, she runs into Lou.

This chance encounter sends them on a journey through West Texas, where strange things follow them wherever they go. The landscape morphs into an unsettling world, a mysterious cat joins them, and they are haunted by a group of threatening men. To stay safe, Bea and Lou must trust each other as they are driven to confront buried truths. The two women share their stories of loss and heartbreak—and a startling revelation about sexual assault—culminating in an exquisite example of human connection.

This magical realistic adventure from the celebrated comics creator of
Spinning and On a Sunbeam will stay with readers long after the final gorgeously illustrated page.

Really good story, we get attached to the two characters as if we were part of the trip ... Illustrations are fantastic. Colors are so well choosen.

I'm French and I was not able to wait for the French version of the book and i was not disappointed!

A poignant book that deals with grief and trauma in a profound and raw way, set against a stunning backdrop. I loved the friendship that unfolds between Lou and Bea, and the ways in which they both support each other during their road trip. I also really enjoyed the thread of magical realism / fantastical elements that were woven throughout the story in such a masterful way. It was brilliantly done. As always, Tillie Walden's work is breathtaking and profound and "Are You Listening?" is no different. I highly recommend it.

I like their conversations, because its not unrealistic, its something I personally would say too. The story is nice and has a fantasy in it. The characters are well made and the pictures are very comforting and makes someone feel very relaxed. I read it in 3 days even though I could have read it in 1 day only.

I would recommend the book for a small road trip. Have a great day, stay humble :]

My favourite book out of all of Tillie's works. 'Are you listening?' has such well rounded characters, nostalgic settings, and spooky elements that roll up into the perfect package. Would absolutely recommend the read
