I bought this for baking things like gratins and one pot meals in a toaster oven. I use it at least four times per week. It's incredibly handy, and not just for a toaster oven. It's a good size for making side dishes baked separately from other items. The cast iron makes for even heating. The tight fitting lid aids moisture retention. It is easy to clean.
It is small. For example, It will hold one large pork chop or chicken thigh, a serving of cubed potato, and a serving of cut carrots. That makes it suitable for a meal for one. Another application is making a gratin or roasted vegetables as a side-dish for two. It is excellent for reheating leftovers, and for making simple dishes from leftovers. It works well for frittatas, baked fish, beef short ribs for two.
I often use it in the toaster oven at 275F or 300F for one to two and a half hours, depending on what I'm cooking.
The best way to apply it is either in the oven in a range when cooking in other vessels, or in a toaster oven to conserve energy. One example in a full size oven would be cooking vegetables in this vessel while roasting a chicken in a full-size cocotte.
