A fine and unique author
Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2013This is a writer you really should know. Smith's work is unlike anything else I've read in the field, after a certain point. Yes, it has aliens, weird tech and political intrigue, but its... different. The stories are sweeping, semi-romantic without becoming sugary or maudlin and often just plain WILD. There is a strange yet sweet morality throughout his tales, which gives them supportive sobriety. Many a noted sci-fi author nods to Smith, so take that as a good reason to read one of his works. Sadly, he died before he could finish the great arc he had in mind, but what you can read is memorable and rewarding. Look him up on Wikipedia and get an eyeful of what a broadly-experienced and complex man he was. His work shows it.

Sci Fi Fantasy at its Best.
Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2013I knew of this author before I purchased this book. This collection of stories is presented in a compelling chronology; from the past into the far future. Smiths writing is unique and wonderful. I anticipate rereading this book in the years to come.

Great Short Science Fiction Stories
Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2014This was a great science fiction collection of short stories. The best part of this book is that the majority of it takes place in the same "world/universe" and are sequential. It is awesome to see how throughout time the author's version of the future evolves. Plus quite a few stories involve cats!
