I used these lenses to replace the older original 24-70 2.8. I was waffling on whether to switch to the new RF mounts, but decided to stick with these and continue using the RF/EF adapter for my R5 cameras. I'm glad I did. Although with the adapter they're slightly longer than the native RF would have been, the weight is similar and they're smooth with truly excellent image quality and versatility. It's an excellent must-have lens for unpredictable shooting situations like weddings, or portraits with kids that are going a mile a minute.
The old 24-70 had a reverse barrel where zooming in would shorten the barrel and zooming out would lengthen it. This current model reverses that so the lens gets longer when you zoom in and shorter when you zoom out. It doesn't matter operationally, but it's just more satisfying. The locking mechanism is also very much appreciated.
This lens isn't going to blow your mind if you've already got a similar unit in your bag, but if you're new to this, this is a workhorse lens that absolutely justifies itself.

No original packaging, but works as intended.
This lens did NOT come in its original box, BUT was wrapped in MANY layers of bubble wrap to help ensure that it arrived safely. The lens also came in this Canon Lens Bag that was very neat and had all of its original lens caps on it so unless you're in desperate need for the original box, the lens itself will arrive just fine (or at least mine did). Taking a look at the lens itself, there are some VERY minor scuffs around some of the edges and even then you have to actively look at the lens and try to find them to be able to see them. I was worried about the usage of it at first because I would try to change something on the lens whether it was the focus or the length of it and found that I wasn't able to make changes like I should've been able to. However, it was because the lens has a "lock" switch on it that was turned on, and I never used a lens that had that before. So if you run into something like this just make sure that the lock on the lens is turned off. Overall I think this is fantastic. It's almost $300 cheaper to get this lens compared to a brand new one so very minor scuffs and lack of the original box is completely fine by me.
