Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York
Entitled presents an unvarnished and meticulously researched account of two of the most controversial figures in modern royal history. Based on years of investigation, extensive Freedom of Information requests and more than a hundred interviews with previously silent sources, acclaimed royal expert Andrew Lownie delivers an authoritative and deeply revealing dual portrait of the Duke and Duchess, whose lives and relationship have ben marked by privilege, controversy, and public fascination.
Tracing their stories from childhood through their high-profile courtship and marriage, dramatic divorce, and enduring connection as âthe happiest divorced couple in the world,â Entitled digs deeper than ever before into a pair that has long been a source of scrutiny. Lownie examines Prince Andrewâs trajectory from a celebrated naval officer to a disgraced royal accused of sexual assault and stripped of his public duties, and unpacks the truth of his lavish lifestyle and the enduring fallout from his association with Jeffrey Epstein.
More than just a story of personal failings or royal scandal, Entitled examines the broader context of a monarchy navigating public accountability and the pressures of modernity. The result is a compelling and nuanced portrait of a flawed couple whose lives have defined and defied the expectations of royalty in the 21zst century, and whose actions continue to resonate far beyond the palace walls.

content excellent - formatting is not
Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2025Kudos to Lownie on his research for this book. The Kindle version of this book was obviously not edited before being released. Footnotes, which are marked with an asterisk and which would have appeared at the bottom of the page in a hard copy version, pop up in the middle of unrelated paragraphs, which is confusing and annoying. The actual content of the book is fascinating and well researched. The format is unprofessional and disappointing. I am hoping that the editors will re-format the Kindle edition and distribute it to those of us who bought the original version.

Iteresting content with sloppy editing
Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2025The content of the book is interesting and it is clear that a lot of research went into it. if Queen Elizabeth II failed at anything it was instilling in her favorite child a sense of responsibility and basic consideration of others. Pedophile Epstein was quoted as saying that he viewed Andrew as more sexually depraved than himself. it was pointed out more than once that the Palace would have a hard time making much of Megan's bullying without having to face up to Andrew's ill-treatment of the people who served him. It's hard to understand why parents who demanded so much from Charles seemed to demand so little from Andrew.
As others have noted, the book was unprofessionally edited. Sentences may break mid-line, quotes can be hard to recognize because they often are not set off by quotation marks or indentation, and the text of footnotes usually appear in the middle of the paragraphs to which they relate. Photos are oddly placed.

Compelling content, undermined by sloppiness of production and occasionally of fact
Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2025Cannot agree more with other reviewers that the formatting of this book is a disgrace. Having worked in book publishing, I'm guessing someone with no experience garbled components of layout work from a different edition. We have a barely readable font, with hyphens that look like dots, plus colons and semicolons that are in the middle rather than at the bottom edge of the line; paragraph indents that can vary several times in the course of a page; asterisked notes appearing in the middle of a page (sometimes interrupting a sentence of the main text); photo spreads that have been divided several pages apart (with photos in them often far removed from the related text); and many words in the middle of paragraphs that have hyphens between syllables because they were apparently at the end of the line in a previous page layout. Sometimes I was able to parse out that parts of a word or phrase had been inadvertently dragged and dropped to a different place on the page (for example, "faulationmily" and "manip" on p. 121). When whole paragraphs are a quote, there are no quotation marks, presumably because these longer quotations were set off in a visually clearer way in the earlier layout.
On top of all this, the print quality is terrible-- sort of a light gray for the text, while the pages that provide photographs and captions are blurry like copies of copies of photocopies from decades ago. The one oddity that worked out okay, at least in my copy, is the printing of the cover art directly on the hardback cover, instead of using a dust jacket.
The incredible lack of professionalism in book production distracts from and ultimately undermines what Lownie has researched and written. As others have pointed out, the content is compelling even as the Yorks themselves prove exhausting. But there are also a few garbled facts along the way. Some don't matter, such as the statement that Squaw Valley is in Nevada (not California). But others do, such as when Lownie says that Andrew introduced Koo Stark to "Diana," when she was living in Buckingham Palace before her wedding-- then a short bit later says that Andrew and Koo ended their relationship in Sept. 1980, which was months before Lady Diana Spencer even became Prince Charles' fiancee, much less an inmate at the palace.
The author needs to clear up sloppy mistakes like this for future editions, and to insist that his publishers switch to using production people with at least a minimal level of knowledge of page layout. For now, the printed volume is an surprising embarrassment.

DisgustingâĶAppalling
Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2025This is a detailed, well written book. My aunt is of Scottish, English, Welsh, Irish and African descent so she was also interested in reading this book. She supports the Royal family but is appalled by behaviour of Andrew and Sarah. They are two corrupt and narcissistic people. Andrew is the product of being spoiled and indulged by QE2. She rewarded Andrewâs bad behaviour all his life so he grew up spoiled, arrogant narcissistic, selfish and full of himself. As an adult she would reward him with a title whenever his scandalous behavior got him into trouble. Reading this book waned our support for QE2 and we were wondering if the UK should continue supporting a monarchy. However we have faith in Prince William and King Charles.
The shady deals and questionable associations of Andy and Sarah are so numerous, that I developed a headache reading about them. QE2 turned a blind eye to their behaviour for years. These two grifters are now getting what they so richly deserve.
Carefully researched, Mr. Lownie interviewed over 300 people who knew or interacted with the couple. He will be updating or writing another book because more people have contacted him about them. This book, along with Ms Giuffreâs painful memoir, finally exposed this corrupt couple. Andy is especially despicable with his friendship with Epstein and assaulting Ms Giuffre and other underaged girls. Sarahâs loyalty to Epstein was purely financialâhe paid off her debts numerous times.
After reading Mr. Lownieâs book, we watched Andyâs Newsnight interview and started counting the liesâĶweâre still counting.

Good story...bad editing
Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2026The writer did an admirable job but the editing was not completed. Sentences and paragraphs are misplaced and it makes small sections difficult to understand (I was able to figure it out). I did like that there is no paper book cover, it's printed right on the book but overall I did enjoy the book.

A Difficult Read Because of Shoddy Editing and Printing
Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2025The book printing is weird. I was happy to find it available on Amazon although I could find no official release date for the U.S. Also, the price was very low. It arrived yesterday on the 17th. On the last printed page of the book it notes that it was printed on 15 August 2025 in Columbia, SC.
My first clue was that the book had no dust jacket. Ok, so maybe this is a new way to save paper. Iâll go with that.
Pages 12 and 13 (Acknowledgments) were a clue to whatâs inside. The gutters are so narrow that the words practically go from edge to edge of the page. Itâs this way throughout the book. Horrible layout. The font is ok thankfully but the paragraphs feel ârun on.â
Editing is non-existent. There are no quotation marks so it is very difficult to determine what are direct quotes and what are the authorâs thoughts. There are dangling sentences. It is maddening.
Photos are referenced with captions but are missing. Quality of photos are poor - they are usually printed on different paper types but in this book there is only one paper type.
I am very disappointed at the cheap way that Amazon rushed to get this book out.

It's Difficult To Put My Thoughts Into Words
Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2025Page followed by page followed by yet more pages of unimaginable money issues, Sarah trying 10,000 stupid things to make money to pay her enormous debts, Andrew living in his own mind on how great he is. For years I had thought I would probably like Sarah. Now I know I was 100% wrong. And Andrew I have never held much feeling about except what the title of this book is: ENTITLED. I now think even that would be an over statement.
The book is entertaining through about 75%. From there to the end it's just sickening. As was paraphrased in the book: it makes me as a Texan and US citizen glad our forefathers threw the tea into the harbor.
I do recommend the book and I am glad I read it. But I have come away with a far darker view of this Royal Family. ALL of them. YIKES! A & S need to be put out to pasture.

Story is great, LayoutâĶnot so much
Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2025The writing and editing is good! Very informative and entertaining about the Duke and Dutchess. The chapters are short and keep to the chronology of the principles while laying out their lives until they come together and get married. The one caveat that makes this review a 3 star is the layout of the book. Who ever the layout person is needs to find another profession.
There are asterisks citing footnotes that should be at the bottom of the page. Instead, the footnote is mixed amongst the regular text in the same font size and becomes distracting until you figure out what is going on. There are also photo captions that speak to four photos that should be on a page, but there are only three photos. The fourth may be three or four pages further into the book so you need to either search for it, or wait and come across it later and it dawns on you that is the photo they were talking about a chapter ago.
If this were just one isolated incident, I could forgive it, but it is throughout the entirety of the book. I read it for the story and enjoyed it for that, but the editor in me wonders why the final layout didnât go back to the publishers for approval before letting this gem out into the world!

Shaun3 out of 5 starsA great read versus a poor edit?!
Reviewed in Canada on November 18, 2025This version of the book Entitled, as pointed out by a couple of reviewers almost appears to be a pirate copy. It is a hardcover and the front and back cover photographs are actually printed directly on the surface, not a dust cover. No big deal, what is a bit of a big deal to some, might be the fact that inside, the layout and printing are quite poor and photographs of the quality of a 30-year-old photo copier low on ink.
Regardless, I still gave it a three out of five to balance out the fact that it is a pretty good read when you overlook the flaws of this particular version.
Interestingly, even though the book had been released, I was unable to find it and itâs ânormalâ form online or in any of my usual bookstores. From what I understand, despite its flaws, this might be the unedited and pure version of the book as I understand that there is potential litigation occurring as the royal family was not happy with the book and the initial run of commercial versions of the book were pulled from the shelves.
If this is the case, Iâm glad I purchased the book, and got more truth and more of the full story, despite the flaws with the layout and printing.
