Best Smart lock period. (updated 10/25/2021)

Best Smart lock period. (updated 10/25/2021)
Update 9/16/2020 recieved replacement about the 9th or 10th and haven't had any problems for about a week...leading me to believe I just recieved a defective unit. Still enjoying the lock.😁💪🏾 Update 9/7/2020. Had an issue with the door lock gear being hung up unlocking. Door locked fine. I checked to make sure the striker plate was aligned correctly(it was). I even tested the lock with the door opened (Locking and unlocking) and had the same issue. I remembered that some Lock's are sensitive to how tightly the front of the lock and the back mounting plate should be. This lock was professionally installed with my new door but I took off the Battery assembly and adjusted the tightness of the back plate though I found the tightness to be sufficient. Tested the lock same issue. I was not happy about this but I called Amazon and am having a replacement sent out. Customer service was great. If you have the same issue don't bother with tech help if you have followed the steps I took as I isolated that it was the unit that was the issue and not the installation. I'll update again on the new Unit as I saw one other reviewer had the same issue got it resolved but didn't update their review stars from one star..... Researched the other Smart locks: First off I was going to buy this lock before it released but then found out it did not have wifi this initially was a deal breaker for me. I did a lot of research and comparisons to other locks with similar features like lockley and the u-bolt and looked at old tech like the nest Yale lock. I even considered getting the kwickset Halo so my one key unlocked all doors. Why I chose this lock: The choice came to a balance of appearance, features, and reliability. While all the other locks connected to WiFi in some way only the nest was reliable. U-bolt ( also has access to lock wiring when flipping open to use key) and lockley& Ubolt had connectivity and reboot issues, The Halo was bulky and loud. 9/26/2020 Review: I bought this lock for a new door with window that I purchased for my home recently. This is my first day and the lock has me thinking what a convenience. Finger print works fast and is alot quieter than other brands. Auto lock is magical because the lock just knows when it is closed( wish it showed the status of door open or closed in app but I think it's just using the vibration of the closing action. Not a biggie though) I was able to fool it a couple times by partially closing the door to catch the door lever but not align with the deadbolt striker (tough to do and had to try). Pin Works as expected, key (special key) works as expected. The lock is beautiful, build quality is excellent (might I say the best but that's speculation since I haven't touched all the locks in the comparison), works smooth, app is intuitive, and looks really good beside my eufy doorbell. I have not missed Wifi connection as the last smart lock I had did not have this feature but I do want that feature. Features I want in the future: Bluetooth/wifi dongle to unlock/lock remotely, ability to unlock the door from within the doorbell video window, ability to lock door when arming Eufy Alarm (which I do not have yet it and feels it needs a backlit kepad) Final thoughts: If this is your first Smart lock don't let Wifi stop you from buying this amazing Hardware. 4 stars Update 8/252021 After My final thoughts...Eufy answered All My future request by providing Wifi Dongle for remote access and adding lock and unlock functionality in Video doorbell view. For their reason this makes this the best smart lock to buy over all currently on the market. To make things sweeter eufy currently has the Bluetooth model with wifi Bridge on their site for $169. This is more than I paid and I still feel like I received value making this a must buy if your in the market for a smart lock and raising my review to 5 ⭐'s. As far as battery life I am currently only down 1 bar from full since my 9/26/2020 review.Dope product!!

    Almost 1 year update

Purchased in Nov 2020/Updating review in Aug 2021:

I stayed with this lock and did not return because 1) I very quickly became addicted to the ease of fingerprint unlocking, and 2) Eufy customer service.

They reached out to me almost immediately after I left my negative review. Note to anyone reading this - email is the absolute way to go in receiving customer support. We worked for several days on getting the lock to my satisfaction. They emailed me an update because we couldn't get it to successfully push through via the app (an update that was shortly after pushed out to all) that addressed all of the issues I had been experiencing. They offered to send me additional products in their lineup for my troubles, but I declined.

    Today's use/experience:

This door lock is heavily used. It is on a door that is in a slightly covered porch. I say slightly because the ceiling is high and so the lock does get wet when we have a good afternoon storm. I've never had an issue using a fingerprint to get in day, night, rain or sunshine. Also never an issue using a pin code. I never went back to scheduling overnight locking as I am in love with the 24/7 autolock feature. No longer am I going down the street wondering if I locked the door at any hour of the day. Doesn't matter, because it will lock itself! I have it on a 1 minute schedule and it has never failed to autolock. I put fresh batteries into the lock after we pushed through the update in Nov 2020 and I have not needed to change them since. I do see via the app that they are slowly beginning to drain (indicating the reading is accurate and not falsely showing full battery power) and will wait for the warning beeps or app notification to change them. I have another way into my house, so I don't worry about being locked out. I also carry the manual key just in case. This lock does sometimes get stiff when manually turning it to lock or unlock the door. It's a rare occasion and doesn't irk me enough to reach out to customer support. I have not experienced it being stiff when locking or unlocking itself via fingerprint or pin code. I have probably six users saved in the lock along with their pin codes and easily a dozen fingerprints saved as well - sometimes your right thumb or finger is free and sometimes it's your left. An added bonus that doesn't really apply to my situation, but no one can get your pin code over your shoulder if you're not entering it. The app no longer feels clunky or hard to use. You can manage users within the app and if say you hire a cleaner or pet sitter, you can add their name and pin while you're sitting on the couch (need to be on the same Wi-Fi) before they even step foot on your property. Everyone doesn't have to have a fingerprint saved! And should you fire them, you can also delete their info in the same manner. Through the app you can see when they unlock and lock the door as well, essentially serving as a clock in/clock out feature.

Many months ago they pushed through an update that enabled connection to a Wi-Fi bridge. I have not as of yet taken advantage of that, so cannot speak to that feature.

In summary, I love, love, love this lock. If it ever dies on me, I will replace it with the same or newer version of this exact lock. I used keypad locks for years prior to this one and am a little appalled at how quickly we've become too lazy to press buttons to get in.

    Original review:

This lock is easy to install and use. The app is clunky and not so easy to use. I just checked the lock events and the time was off by 24 hours. Is a big deal when we use scheduled auto lock for overnight hours as my husband works on call overnight and his biggest fear is forgetting to lock the door at the random wee hours of the morning he is called to go. This feature therefore wouldn't work if the app thinks it's daytime and no need to auto lock when in fact it is nighttime and very much needs to be auto locked. As a work around I am setting it for 24/7 auto lock but that's a disappointment to have a feature sold but not work. Also due to the 24/7 auto lock, this thing eats batteries like potato chips. I'm lucky to get a week out of a fresh 4 pack. It is the second week of Nov and I don't show a firmware update needed. Getting a human is impossible. I tried chat and interestingly the two different days and times I tried it, there were exactly 2 people in the queue in front of me and no matter how long I waited that number never changed. I'm undecided if I'll keep this lock. The fingerprint is awesome, but the battery expense makes this a bigger investment than planned, the features not actually working as advertised is a big disappointment, and the lack of customer support matters greatly.

    This Is An Excellent Lock

Got this during a holiday sale. I already have the Eufy wireless doorbell and that has been fantastic, so I stuck with the brand/line for the door lock.

Packaging was excellent with everything inside the box packed neatly with every smaller internal box listing which step in the directions it went with. Makes things MUCH easier to handle during install.

Installation took less than 30 minutes, including taking out the old lock. Admittedly, I had my brother in law over to make sure nothing went wrong, but after we were done, I even told him I felt bad for having him come over because it was so easy. Assuming your door isn't some wacky custom build, this should be a breeze.

The functions of the lock are great. Programming it was really simple through the Eufy Security app. It has bluetooth so you can unlock from the app, a fingerprint reader that works VERY fast, a number pad to make a PIN, and it also comes with multiple keys in case of dead batteries or malfunction. inside the app, you can set the door to auto-lock when it detects you have closed the door. You can set chime noises to let you know when the lock opens or closes.

Appearance: Yep, it looks really great on the door. Bonus points for it matching my doorbell perfectly.

Overall I am saying this is a great smart lock and one that should be seriously considered if you are in the market. About the only downside to this one is that it does not have Wifi integration. That was not important to me at this time, but is something I may consider in the future. This is a really nice lock with a really good app and just about all of the security/function you will need.

I've had this lock for a few months now. I have installed it twice. the initial install plus removing and installing a replacement. both times the install was extremely easy and took maybe 10-15 mins including the app configuration.

So why did I have to install a replacement? well, the battery drained out in less than a month and it was supposed to last about a year! I contacted eufy support and they were helpful and sent me out a replacement so they can investigate the hardware in case that was the issue. I had my doubts that it was a hardware issue and more likely a firmware issue. sure enough, I installed the new replacement, turned on auto lock and the same issue was observed. the battery drained quickly with minimal lock and unlocking. I decided to turn off auto lock and sure enough the battery drain slowed down where the battery bars remained static. I sent all my findings to support and my theory that the auto lock feature was likely thinking that my door was still unlocked when I manually locked it. it would do this thing where when I opened the door the auto lock would trigger and lock the door while it was open. a few days later, they had pushed out an update for this battery drain issue (9/11/20 firmware update). I installed it. switched auto lock back on and the crazy battery drain issue was no longer present since. eufy support also sent some additional batteries since the included set has drained a bit in my testing. as far as this feedback loop goes, it was an excellent experience to have helped solve a big problem from happening to others going forward.

back to the device itself. finger print access and pin works well for me. key access is a little weird but I don't think I'd ever even use it. it's well built and feels very premium and sturdy. accessing the app via Bluetooth takes a little longer than i would like but good enough.

Almost best in class...just missing one big thing

I love eufy products and was really excited about this lock. It’s got a lot of pros, but one really big con....

    Pros:

    -East to install

    -Fingerprint sensor works fairly well

    -Build quality is great

    -The thing looks great

-Love the many different ways to access

-The App and software features are easy to use and comprehensive

    Now for the BIG con:

The lock doesn’t have WiFi or an adaptor for BLE (Bluetooth) to WiFi. This is a huge miss for a company that typically leads the way on smart home tech. As a result, you can not access the lock remotely to check its status, remotely lock/unlock it, or remotely add codes for guests. You’re also not able to connect it to a smart assistant (Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant), which somewhat takes the “smart” out of the lock. With WiFi connectivity you could unlock (pun intended) features like IFTTT which opens up (pun #2) a whole world of possibilities.

I went ahead and bought the lock despite this because Eufy/Anker makes quality products. They have a track record of listening to feedback so I hope they make an adaptor to enable remote connectivity...if they did, this lock would be best in class.

Honestly, this is a really good smart lock. The fingerprint works fast and most of the time it reads on the first try, which I love because I don’t have to carry keys anymore.

It looks nice and feels strong, not cheap. The keypad is easy to use too. The only thing is if you want to control it from far away, you need to buy the Wi-Fi bridge separately.

But overall, it does its job really well and makes life easier. I’m happy with it.

Wow! I have to say I’ve got no ties to this company because after I start describing this smart lock you’re probably going to wonder if my review is real. It is and I can’t stop marveling at what a great job they did. Firstly the lock works seamlessly with my Eufy doorbell within the same app. I programmed two of my fingers to open the lock and it’s exactly like an iPhone. A brief finger touch to the round scanner and the bolt slides open. You may also use your numeric code (1 associated with each fingerprint stored) or open it by sliding the lock symbol down from the app on your phone. I set it to automatically lock after 5 minutes of closing and you may go shorter or not use this feature at all. I’m forgetful so I like it to relock. The key is unique with a key way elegantly hidden behind a magnetic round cover. It has the cylinder ridge (?) in the center which has got to make it even harder to be picked. Besides, with the jagged key ridge in the center of the rails of the key it means less sawing through your pockets too! You get 5 physical keys and up to 100 fingerprint/numeric code keys.

Assembly is unbelievably easy. Everything has stickers with the number corresponding to which step it is used in and this hand-holding approach was much appreciated. I was replacing a lock so it didn’t need to drill any holes and was even able to leave the old (color coordinated) strike plate in the door jamb. The inner computer uses very short screws to attach to the inner plate so a little dexterity is required (as well as sharp eyes to find those little screws when you drop them ;-)). I already had the app on my phone and setting up the software was effortless. There’s a QR code (like a square barcode) you use you phone camera to register your specific lock and it worked like a charm.

I’m very very pleased with everything about this handsome and solidly built product and I highly recommend it.

Cannot install in remote areas. Security App requires cell phone with internet access to install.
Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2022

So, the description for this says, "Easy to Install: You can install Smart Lock in just 15 minutes, all by yourself, and using only a screwdriver—saving you from calling a contractor." There is no mention that you have to use a smart phone with data access and create an online account just to get it installed. Okay fine. So if you take it to a remote area (like a cabin in the woods) you CANNOT install it. Isn't it silly to spend this kind of money for something that alleges it is stand alone with only Bluetooth required only to find out you have to set up an account online? The Security App on the phone won't get past the splash screen or allow the alleged Bluetooth access for set up unless there is internet access. Yeah right. From you cabin in the woods. Very convenient for Anker (eufy) to leave out these kind of details. They need to make the Security App work "stand alone" as implied instead of requiring internet access before anything can be done before, during or after installation. They also advertise all secure information is stored internally in the unit and the app talks directly to the unit. Nope. There is full internet monitoring of your setup and security settings by Anker. I didn't want to have to need cellular or internet service just to get past the word go. It must be hard for an electrical engineer sitting in an urban cubicle designing a deadbolt to realize homes and buildings that need to be locked might be anywhere on the planet with or without cellular coverage or internet availability. It makes zero sense in the real world where people on farms, ranches and remote cabins need a deadbolt that just works and buy one of these based on the misleading marketing crap about only needing hand tools with all security data stored internally with the unit and then to find out the required app doesn't work that way and must talk to eufy servers in Asia before allowing any kind of use. Make a stand alone app we can load on our phone for use before we go into the woods to secure our property.

Update 9/16/2020 recieved replacement about the 9th or 10th and haven't had any problems for about a week...leading me to believe I just recieved a defective unit. Still enjoying the lock.😁💪🏾

Update 9/7/2020.

    Researched the other Smart locks:

First off I was going to buy this lock before it released but then found out it did not have wifi this initially was a deal breaker for me. I did a lot of research and comparisons to other locks with similar features like lockley and the u-bolt and looked at old tech like the nest Yale lock. I even considered getting the kwickset Halo so my one key unlocked all doors.

    Why I chose this lock:

The choice came to a balance of appearance, features, and reliability. While all the other locks connected to WiFi in some way only the nest was reliable. U-bolt ( also has access to lock wiring when flipping open to use key) and lockley& Ubolt had connectivity and reboot issues, The Halo was bulky and loud.

    9/26/2020 Review:

I bought this lock for a new door with window that I purchased for my home recently.

Features I want in the future:

Bluetooth/wifi dongle to unlock/lock remotely, ability to unlock the door from within the doorbell video window, ability to lock door when arming Eufy Alarm (which I do not have yet it and feels it needs a backlit kepad)

    Final thoughts:

If this is your first Smart lock don't let Wifi stop you from buying this amazing Hardware. 4 stars

    Update 8/252021

After My final thoughts...Eufy answered All My future request by providing Wifi Dongle for remote access and adding lock and unlock functionality in Video doorbell view.

Easy install, works great. One thing I want them to change in the App is to manual set the exact delay time for auto-lock currently it's up to 3min in 1/2 minute intervals. What if I'm just out in the front yard or garage and coming and going every 4 mins and I don't want it autolocking on me, what about every 6min...maybe I still don't want it to auto-lock. But maybe at 10 or 15min then it's obvious I've left or going to be gone for a while in which case, yes, then I want it to finally lock.

At $230 for a ‘smart’ lock we expected a lot more. It worked well for approx 2 months before the keypad started to bubble and separate (see photo). The fingerprint reader worked in dry conditions , but was useless with any dampness. 5 months after purchasing the entire unit was 100% dead and unresponsive. So far, customer service appears to be a BOT, but as we are within the warranty period we are demanding replacement or a refund. It seems from other reviews that this unit is notorious for failing just before or just after the warranty period. It’s unfortunate as we had high hopes and liked the unit for a solid 6-8 weeks before the poor chinese craftsmanship revealed itself. Hoping the warranty department takes pity and replaces our unit with a Schlage. We shall see.

    Fingerprint works well

This lock works well, the fingerprint scanner has been working flawlessly and the ability to lock/unlock via the app is nice too. If you have the wifi bridge, you can unlock and lock from anywhere, if not just Bluetooth from the app. The lock was very easy to install and has all the mounts and accessories you will need.

One caveat is that the lock can't tell if the door is in fact closed, it will lock even if the door is ajar so there isn't any indication as to the state of the door. Also, if there is any resistance to the lock moving it will indicate a jam of the lock so make sure when installing, the lock can fully extend into the door jamb without any resistance from the sides of the plate.
