I'll bite - 8GB VRAM is enough
Dive into any online forum specialising in PC hardware and/or gaming and mention a 4060, you'll probably be shot down in flames. Noone will ask you what is your 'use case', but simply assume you need to play the latest and greatest badly ported console titles on your PC at 4K/240Hz.
So what does the 4060 offer?
- Equivalent or better performance than 3060ti, 2070 Super, 1080Ti
- Low power draw (115W). This in turn leads to easy cooling and low noise.
- Value (it's value at £300 is poor, value at £220 is excellent)
- Frame generation
- Resolution upscaling
The 8GB VRAM is a sticking point for my gamers and hardware reviewers. It only becomes in issue of exceeded by a game and therefore performance drops off a cliff due to the game having to use slower system RAM to make up the difference. All PC games have settings that can and should be altered to suit your hardware. That said most games will run at 1080p in excess of 60fps on this card on their highest settings and the vast majority will do the same at 1440p. Let's be clear, this is not a card for 4K and arguably not for ray tracing (although it is capable) - as this also has an impact on VRAM.
As a father with 3 boys (who are all PC gaming mad), this card is excessive for the vast majority of the titles they play, however given the option of a dusty old second hand GPU at £150-£200 and this, I'd take the 4060 every time.
Performance @ 1080p
Forza Horizon 5 - 105fps
Doom Eternal - 230fps
F1 23 - 110fps
Red Dead Redemption 2 - 70fps
Spiderman Remastered - 120fps
This MSI variant of the card offers a small 'overclock' out of the box, but this shouldn't be a deciding factor, the overclock is really minuscule - offering a 1-2% uplift at best. It is however a very compact unit, and makes zero noise at idle (fans do not spin up until under load). There is no need for any sort of GPU support stand or bracket with this card, it is simply not big or heavy enough to warrant it. I've had Ventus cards before (one of my sons currently has a 3060Ti Ventus 3x), and there is no issue with reliability or performance.
One of the stars of the show with the 4060 is support for frame generation. It allows the generation of a 'fake' frame for every real rendered frame, almost (but not) doubling the frame rate. To be clear, frame generation is only really useful if you can generate at least 60 frames per second normally, as the game will still 'feel' like it's native frame rate - but paired with a high refresh rate 1080p monitor, most games can be played at really high frame rates, which offers up a very smooth gameplay experience.
The other part of DLSS (along with Frame Generation) is upscaling, where the card is effectively rendering the images at a lower resolution and using AI models to 'upscale' to the target resolution. This is very effective and on most settings leads to very little noticeable image quality loss. The combination of all these features in DLSS leads to a very powerful toolbox of tricks to gain high framerates and quality on the most demanding of game titles.
Another (often overlooked) feature is power consumption, which at 115W is tiny even compared to last generation (3060ti = 220W). When you have 3 boys gaming all hours they can, this becomes a factor! Not only that, it make the card easy to cool, I've yet to see a temperature over 65°C when stress testing this card. It also means there is a requirement for only a single 8pin PCIE power plug.
With the nVidia 50 series of cards now launched, you may question the logic of a 4060 purchase. It's a question of value, the performance uplift to 5060 is minimal although the 50 series also offers 3x frame generation, which may be a factor. Catching a 4060 at the right price is key, as stocks are sold off - there are bargains to be had.

Super Preis Leistung Verhähltniss
Was zusätzliche FPS gibt.
VENZEDOR星5つ中5つGRAN RENDIMIENTO A BUEN PRECIO
Good, but not great
Bought this for the sake of it being an Nvidia graphics card.
In terms of performance it has been good, but not really when you take the price into account.
The card handles all games with ease, at least the ones I’ve played like Cyberpunk, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Minecraft, and EA FC
In terms of AI it has been great so far, but the recently released Project G-assistant can’t run on this card due to lack of VRAM
Parfaite pour mes besoins
