期待していたが、今一、一曲目の録音の悪さは致命的だ、次を期待しよう、

いや〜素晴らしいアルバムでしたよ！ビルチャーラップトリオのアルバムは何枚も持っていますが、このアルバムも最高にいいです！録音も演奏も素晴らしいの一言です。とにかくこのトリオのメンバーが良い。ビルチャーラップのトリオはこのメンバーが最高に相性が良いと思いますね。ベースのピーターワシントン、ドラムのケニーワシントン、もう最高ですよ！買って損はしないと思います。

最後に、録音を酷評している方がいますが、とんでもないです。録音はすごく良い音、豊かな音で録音されていますのでご安心を。この音を悪いと思われる方は、オーディオシステムを見直す必要があると思います。

Bill Charlap critics have cause to consider his music too mainstream, and for those who prefer that their jazz use extremes of harmonic dissonance or sonic contrast may be left unsatisfied. But this is not the Wayne Shorter quartet; this is by far the most masterful and downright honest picking up of the torch from greats such as Erroll Garner, Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson or (more recently) Mulgrew Miller. In other words: the art of a piano trio presenting standards. The sound has a 'classy dinner party' atmosphere only in that it does not demand your attention, and therefore lends itself well to the background. But like a peaceful Monet hung on the wall, it will reward you for close scrutiny, and (like the best standards playing) uses the rigid structure as a framework for incredibly inventive but cogent extemporisation. This is an album to return to repeatedly, well worthy of it's 5* Downbeat review and an excellent entry point in to Bill Charlap's work.

As regards the CD, the liner notes contain a welcome essay from Carol Sloane and the sound engineering has a richness that only a studio environment can produce (a personal preference over the characteristically flat sound found on his Village Vanguard live release), but the CD may feel like a budget release in the hands for those used to the Impulse cardboard releases. However, at 7€, there's no reason to hesitate. Add it to your next basket and enjoy.

Great sonics and great music. I am a fan of both and if they can happen in the same recording it is a real bonus. Everybody on this project knew what they were doing.

Bill charlap is one of my favourite pianists this album did not disappointed, good selection of songs, and a rare harry warren tune, lovely
