A lot can happen in 4 years, and, as far as the Unity Asset Store is concerned, it certainly has. Asset Store growth has outstripped even that of the Unity Engine itself to become a marketplace where almost 1 million developers source the assets they need to make their games.

In fact, the Asset Store was a rip roaring success pretty much from the get go. Within three months of launch in 2010 there were already 10,000 Asset Store users, and the top-selling asset in the store’s first quarter made Brady Wright over $15,000. Today, top sellers make in excess of $30,000 a month.

Caitlyn’s been running the Asset Store since it started, and she’s understandably stoked: “The Unity Asset Store has made a gigantic difference – something we’re incredibly proud of!   Back before we had the Asset Store, we saw indies began sharing their work with one another on the forum – code, models, tools… The Asset Store began as a little experiment to formalize that… to give it a better place than the community forum or wiki page, and to give folks an opportunity to make some money at the same time.”
