AJB and APPS SPECIAL ISSUE CALL FOR PAPERS
“Advancing restoration of natural and agricultural systems: New tools and discoveries that integrate plant traits, plant communities, and the soil ecosphere”
Proposal submission deadline: August 31, 2026

The American Journal of Botany (AJB) and Applications in Plant Sciences (APPS) are accepting proposals for joint special issues focusing on how plant traits (from shoots to roots), plant communities, and the soils they grow in interact. Through expanding our understanding of the dynamics of individual plant systems and then scaling this knowledge to entire plant communities, we can improve our ability to predict ecosystem function, enhance crop development, and guide effective ecological restoration. The AJB collection will share insights that connect above- and belowground plant structure and function across scales, increasing our capacity to design resilient agricultural systems and restore natural ecosystems. The APPS collection will highlight methods for capturing individual- and community-level information through the development of new tools and the transfer of technology from model crops to non-model species..
