Agent

Good, I have all the core docs. Now I need to read the relevant memory shards (C-1 touches ElevenLabs, D-5/D-6/D-7 touch forecast/model), the adversarial review skill, and explore the current repo structure. Let me fan out research subagents for the heavy lifting while I read the remaining files.

Agent

Now let me fan out subagents to research the current codebase structure in parallel while I continue gathering information.

Agent

Good, three research subagents are running in parallel. Let me also check for any existing plan files for M6 and look at what existing plans tell me about prior milestones' patterns.

Agent

No existing M6 plan โ€” good, I'll create it fresh. Now let me wait for the research subagents to report back. Let me set a timer in case they take a while.

Agent

Waiting for the research subagents to report back with their findings.

Note: This is essentially identical to your existing live_weather.py โ€” the implementation you already have is correct. The only thing to potentially add for M6 is:
- Setting forecast_days=1 if you want to include today's forecast hours (useful so you have data right up to the current hour)
- Adding error handling for network failures in the server context

Integration Notes for M6

  1. Your existing live_weather.py already does exactly what you need. The fetch_live_weather() function matches the CSV schema and is already wired into brief.py via the live=True parameter.

  2. For the server, you'll call build_brief(live=True) instead of the CSV path. The forecast result should be cached by issue time as the build plan requires.

  3. For the "Demo day: Sep 30" offline option, you'd call build_brief(live=False, date_str="2026-09-30") using the committed CSV.

Now I have all the research back. Let me compile everything into the plan. Let me first also verify the existing M5 plan to understand what was done there, and read the brief.py more carefully since that's the orchestration layer I'll be building on top of.

Let me now write the plan file. I have everything I need:

Skill dispatch match: "Planning any change to a week repo" โ†’ skills/adversarial-review.md โœ“ (already read)

Let me create the plan.

Previous Session Summary:

1. Outstanding User Requests

Request 1: Build M6 Morning Brief Page โ€” Must List Only

  • Status: PLANNING (plan file written, awaiting user APPROVE)
  • User's exact words: "I want to Start M6 from @[docs/challenge/w1/build-plan.md] and @[docs/challenge/w1/ui-spec.md] Build the Must list only and if fan out agent in parrallel to research and you orchestrate and follow my rules and protocol to deliver the plan"
  • Current state: Plan file created at [REDACTED_PATH]\[REDACTED_USER]-Hackerton\plans\w1-M6-morning-brief-page.md with status AWAITING APPROVAL. The agent must NOT write any code until user replies APPROVE.

2. User Knowledge

  • User is Ise. This is the Hacktoberfest 2026 DEV challenges workspace.
  • Active week: Week 1, w1-go-out-today, window 2026-10-05 to 2026-10-11. Target submit: 2026-10-11 10:00 Lagos.
  • User explicitly said to build the Must list only from the UI spec and fan out research in parallel.
  • User follows a strict plan-before-build protocol: plan file in plans/, wait for APPROVE, then build. "ok", "sounds good", "yes" are NOT approval โ€” only the word APPROVE or APPROVE WITH CHANGES.
  • User's rules require citing path:line for code claims, never inventing API shapes, and following memory/corrections/decisions/patterns strictly.
  • The user changed model setting to Claude Opus 4.6 (Thinking) at the start of this session.

Agent

This is very important โ€” the research subagent revealed that the actual repo structure differs significantly from what I assumed. The package is w1_go_out_today, not go_out_today, the CLI is in cli.py, forecast returns a DataFrame (not a list of dicts), there's no brief.py or guard.py, and the plan.py interface is completely different. Let me update the plan with the correct structure.

Let me read the truncated parts and verify the exact interfaces I need to work with.

1. How to use the past_days parameter to get the last 48 hours of weather

Open-Meteo's standard forecast endpoint (https://api.open-meteo.com/v1/forecast) provides the past_days parameter:
* Mechanism: past_days=N accepts an integer between 0 and 92. Setting past_days=2 instructs the API to include hourly data starting from 2 days prior to today at 00:00 midnight.
* Forecast days control: By default, /v1/forecast returns 7 future forecast days (forecast_days=7). To prevent fetching unnecessary future forecast days:
* Strictly past 48 hours (previous 2 calendar days): Combine past_days=2 and forecast_days=0. This returns exactly 48 hourly points (from 2 days ago 00:00 to yesterday 23:00).
* Past 48 hours + today up to current hour / end of today: Combine past_days=2 and forecast_days=1 (returns 72 hours: 2 days ago + yesterday + today).
* Alternative hourly parameter: Open-Meteo also supports past_hours=48 and forecast_hours=0 (or 1). While past_days aligns with day boundaries (00:00), past_hours=48 returns a rolling 48-hour window up to the current hour.
* Bridging the 2026-09-30 CSV gap: Because past_days supports up to 92 days, you can even pass past_days=9 (or start_date="2026-10-01"&end_date="2026-10-08") to seamlessly fetch all missing days since the CSV ended on 2026-09-30 without touching the archive API!

2. Exact API URL and parameters for Lagos, Nigeria

  • Coordinates: Latitude 6.5244, Longitude 3.3792
  • Timezone: timezone=Africa%2FLagos (crucial: without this, timestamps <truncated 5799 bytes> r.py:2-59, requiring no extra package inpyproject.toml):* ``python import json import urllib.parse import urllib.request import pandas as pd

def fetch_recent_weather_urllib(
latitude: float = 6.5244,
longitude: float = 3.3792,
past_days: int = 2,
forecast_days: int = 1,
timezone: str = "Africa/Lagos",
) -> pd.DataFrame:
query = urllib.parse.urlencode(
{
"latitude": latitude,
"longitude": longitude,
"hourly": "temperature_2m,relative_humidity_2m,dew_point_2m,precipitation,cloud_cover,pressure_msl,wind_speed_10m",
"past_days": past_days,
"forecast_days": forecast_days,
"timezone": timezone,
}
)
url = f"https://api.open-meteo.com/v1/forecast?{query}"

req = urllib.request.Request(url, headers={"User-Agent": "w1-go-out-today"})
with urllib.request.urlopen(req, timeout=15) as resp:
    if resp.status != 200:
        raise RuntimeError(f"Open-Meteo API returned HTTP {resp.status}")
    data = json.loads(resp.read().decode("utf-8"))

df = pd.DataFrame(data["hourly"])
df["time"] = pd.to_datetime(df["time"])
return df.dropna().sort_values("time").reset_index(drop=True)

---

### Pipeline Integration Notes for TabPFN
1. **Lag calculation:** In `forecast.py:27-29`, `prepare_data` computes 3-hour differentials:
   * `press_diff_3h = pressure_msl - pressure_msl.shift(3)`
   * `hum_diff_3h = relative_humidity_2m - relative_humidity_2m.shift(3)`
   * `rain_last_3h = precipitation.rolling(3).sum()`
   Fetching 48 hours provides well over the 3 hours needed before the issue time (e.g. 06:00), allowing `.dropna()` at line 44 without dropping valid current rows.
2. **Bridging from 2026-09-30:** If you want to concatenate recent data onto `data/lagos_weather.csv`, you can either pass `past_days=9` to capture all days since Sept 30, or use `df_combined = pd.concat([df_csv, df_live]).drop_duplicates(subset=["time"]).sort_values("time")`.

</SYSTEM_MESSAGE>
Agent

Excellent โ€” now I have the real repo structure. Critical differences from my initial plan:

  1. Package is w1_go_out_today, not go_out_today
  2. CLI is in cli.py, entry point is w1_go_out_today:main
  3. forecast.forecast() takes (df, issue_time, n, clf, reg, features) and returns a DataFrame with columns time, hours_ahead, temp_pred, rain_prob
  4. plan.get_outdoor_plan() takes (fcst_df, activity, ...) and uses call_ollama() via raw urllib.request (not the ollama package)
  5. voice.generate_voice() takes (text, audio_dir, voice_id, model_id, no_voice, play, api_key) โ€” different signature
  6. CSV columns are time, temperature_2m, precipitation, relative_humidity_2m, dew_point_2m, cloud_cover, pressure_msl, wind_speed_10m (not just date, temperature_2m, rain)
  7. No brief.py, no guard.py โ€” plan validation is in plan.py
  8. No live_weather.py โ€” there is no live weather fetcher yet
  9. Audio is cached in audio/ not data/audio/
  10. The forecast module needs prepare_data โ†’ get_splits โ†’ train_and_evaluate before calling forecast()

I need to rewrite the plan with the correct interfaces. Let me also check fetch_weather.py to understand the CSV columns.

Agent

Now I have the full picture. The CSV has 7 weather columns plus time. The forecast module needs all 7 columns. The existing live_weather.py (from the subagent's initial report) does not exist โ€” that was confabulated by the model that generated that research response. I need to create it.

Let me now rewrite the plan file with the correct interfaces, file paths, and module names.

Here is the concrete implementation guide for Server-Sent Events (SSE) with FastAPI, uvicorn, and vanilla JavaScript, tailored to the pipeline requirements of Week 1 M6.

1. The Correct Way to Create an SSE Endpoint with FastAPI

SSE requires a long-lived HTTP response with:
- Content-Type: text/event-stream
- Cache-Control: no-cache
- Connection: keep-alive
- X-Accel-Buffering: no (disables reverse-proxy buffering in Nginx/proxies)
- Message wire format: lines starting with data:, optional event:, id:, or comment lines starting with :, terminated by a double newline (\n\n).

Using FastAPI's built-in StreamingResponse avoids adding any external dependencies to pyproject.toml and works across all FastAPI / Starlette versions.

import asyncio
import json
from typing import AsyncGenerator
from fastapi import FastAPI, Request
from fastapi.responses import StreamingResponse

app = FastAPI()

async def progress_stream(request: Request) -> AsyncGenerator[str, None]:
    try:

๐ŸŒ Community Wisdom: Python Background Tasks โ€” Asyncio Traps, FastAPI & Celery (2026)

Source: Kaushik
Tags: asyncio, fastapi, python

Kaushik notes the classic pitfall of asyncio.create_task(): without maintaining a strong reference in an in-memory set, Python's garbage collector can silently reclaim the task mid-execution. For CPU-bound tasks in async web services, offloading to threads via asyncio.to_thread or a task queue is essential to keep the event loop from freezing.

Explains why SSE is preferred over WebSockets for one-directional streaming (progress bars, logs, AI responses): it is HTTP-native, handles auto-reconnection out of the box in the browser, and avoids stateful WebSocket complexity. Emphasizes disabling buffering (Cache-Control: no-cache), sending comment keep-alives (: ping\n\n), and always handling disconnect cleanups to avoid resource leaks.

Objections & resolutions

# Objection Rating Resolution
O-1 Adding fastapi + uvicorn = 2 new runtime deps serious Spec prescribes them at ui-spec.md:8 โ€” not scope creep
O-2 Forecast cache is in-memory โ€” --prebuild runs in separate process, won't share serious Amended: also write data/cache/forecast_{issue}.json so prebuild โ†’ server shares cache across process boundary
O-3 SSE asyncio.Queue โ†’ one client at a time minor Personal app, one device. Amended to use broadcast subscriber list for safety
O-4 call_ollama() does sys.exit(1) on failure โ€” kills the server process blocker Amended: server wraps get_outdoor_plan() in try/except SystemExit, falls back to generate_fallback_template() with a "Local model offline" note. CLI unchanged
O-5 live_weather.py must fetch all 7 CSV columns, not just 3 serious Plan already specifies all 7 variables for Open-Meteo request. Verified against forecast.py:31-42

Key design choices:
- 8 steps, heaviest are Step 3 (server.py) and Step 4 (index.html)
- CPU-heavy work (forecast, call_ollama, generate_voice) wrapped in asyncio.to_thread() to keep the event loop responsive
- Forecast cached both in-memory and on disk (JSON) so --prebuild at 05:45 + --serve at 06:00 = instant playback
- Single index.html with inline CSS/JS โ€” no build step, per spec

Awaiting approval. I will not write code until you reply APPROVE.

Agent

Let me walk through the design decisions in the plan one by one. Starting with the most impactful one โ€” the blocker.

Agent

Good โ€” Option A confirmed. Next decision:

Agent

Good โ€” past_days=2, forecast_days=1. Next:

Agent

Got it. But wait โ€” this surfaces a critical technical question I need to verify before continuing. The existing forecast() at forecast.py:191 takes df (the full CSV) to call prepare_data() on, plus issue_time. If we train on the CSV but predict on live data, we need to handle this split. Let me check the exact flow.

Agent

I see โ€” forecast() calls prepare_data(df, n=n, is_training=False) on the same df, then looks up the issue_time in the prepared data. So the df passed to forecast() must contain the issue time row. For live mode, we'd pass the live weather DataFrame (which contains today's 06:00). Training happens on the CSV separately. This works.

Good โ€” this does mean we're touching plan.py (adding a kwarg to call_ollama). That's a small, backward-compatible change. Let me continue:

Last couple of decisions:

Agent
Agent
Agent

That's all the design decisions. Let me summarize what we've agreed on:

Decisions summary

# Decision Choice
1 call_ollama sys.exit handling Wrap in try/except SystemExit in server, fall back to template
2 Live weather range past_days=2, forecast_days=1 (~72 hours)
3 CSV vs live strategy Always fetch fresh; CSV only for demo mode
4 Train/predict split Train on CSV, predict on live DataFrame
5 Forecast cache In-memory dict + JSON file on disk
6 Pipeline trigger Page load auto-triggers POST /brief
7 HTML structure Split: index.html + style.css + app.js โ† differs from spec's "one index.html"
8 Activity strings "a walk", "a run", "football", "market", "dry clothes", "commute"
9 Sky gradient logic Average rain_prob > 50% โ†’ grey-blue, else warm orange
10 Timeline windows Reuse compute_forecast_facts() from plan.py
11 Audio delivery GET /audio/{filename} endpoint
12 Outside log format CSV: datetime,activity,note, append-only
13 Ollama keep_alive Add kwarg, server passes "10m", CLI keeps "1m"
14 Text contrast Dark on orange, white on grey-blue
15 SSE model Broadcast (list of subscriber queues)
16 httpx dependency Add explicitly to pyproject.toml
17 Server bind [REDACTED] (localhost only)
18 Outside log git Runtime-only, .gitignore'd
19 Play before ready Show progress, auto-play when brief arrives

I'll now update the plan file with all these resolved decisions and re-submit for approval.

1. Outstanding User Requests

Request 1: Build M6 Must list โ€” Morning brief web page

  • Status: PLANNING โ€” plan file written, grill-me interview completed, awaiting APPROVE from Ise
  • User's original words: "I want to Start M6 from @[docs/challenge/w1/build-plan.md] and @[docs/challenge/w1/ui-spec.md] Build the Must list only and if fan out agent in parrallel to research and you orchestrate and follow my rules and protocol to deliver the plan"
  • Current state: Plan file at [REDACTED_PATH]\[REDACTED_USER]-Hackerton\plans\w1-M6-morning-brief-page.md is status AWAITING APPROVAL. The user ran /grill-me and answered all 19 design questions. 2. User Knowledge

Grill-me decisions (all confirmed 2026-10-08 19:49โ€“20:04):

  1. call_ollama sys.exit handling โ†’ wrap in try/except SystemExit in server, fall back to template

Plan file: plans/w1-M6-morning-brief-page.md

Verdict: READY FOR APPROVAL

What changed from the grill-me:

  • HTML split into index.html + style.css + app.js (your choice over single file)
  • plan.py touched โ€” adding keep_alive kwarg to call_ollama() and get_outdoor_plan() (backward-compatible, default "1m")
  • Broadcast SSE with subscriber queue list
  • Server binds [REDACTED] not [REDACTED]
  • data/outside_log.csv runtime-only, .gitignore'd
  • Play button shows progress and auto-plays when brief arrives
  • All other decisions confirmed as recommended

10 implementation steps. ~5-6 hours. Fits Thu-Fri. Awaiting your APPROVE.

Deviations

2 recorded in plans/w1-M6-morning-brief-page.md:
1. UI files split into index.html, style.css, and app.js under static/ instead of single inline file per Ise's grill-me choice.
2. SSE streaming test in test_server.py monkeypatched last_brief to emit and cleanly complete without blocking synchronous Starlette TestClient.

Journal

Checkpoint 6 appended to journal/w1-go-out-today.md.

For Ise to confirm

  1. Start the server: bash uv run w1-go-out-today --serve
  2. Open http://localhost:8000 in your browser:
    • Observe the sky gradient and greeting.
    • Observe live SSE progress steps during forecast generation (Reading the skyโ€ฆ, TabPFN is forecasting 12 hoursโ€ฆ, Writing your planโ€ฆ, Recording your briefโ€ฆ).
    • Observe the 12-hour timeline appear once TabPFN finishes, with the best window highlighted in green (with ๐ŸŒฑ) and avoid window in red.
    • Press the big play button to hear your spoken brief and read the plan text.
    • Change activity to another chip (e.g. ๐Ÿƒ Run or โšฝ Football) and notice that the forecast step is skipped (cached), only plan + voice re-run.
    • Click "I went outside โœ…", write a note, and verify it appends to data/outside_log.csv.
  3. Try pre-building for morning routine: bash uv run w1-go-out-today --prebuild Then reload http://localhost:8000 to verify instant brief playback (<3s).

The background CLI smoke run (uv run w1-go-out-today --no-voice --issue-time "2026-09-30 06:00") has finished with exit code 0:

  • 12-Hour TabPFN Forecast: accurately computed on CPU with n_estimators=2.
  • Generated Outdoor Plan: "The best time to go for a walk is from 4 pm to 6 pm, with a chance of rain at most 37%. Avoid walking from 10 am to 2 pm, as there's an 81% chance of rain."
  • Output Guard: strictly enforced 2 sentences, 12-hour conversational time format ("4 pm to 6 pm"), and the maximum window rain ceiling ("at most 37%").
  • Voice Fallback: clean one-line notice (Audio skipped (--no-voice)).

Everything is implemented, verified across 52 automated tests, linted with Ruff, and documented. Ready for your manual check of the web UI at http://localhost:8000 via uv run w1-go-out-today --serve.

I have some issue which i will divide in parts

Keep everything that works. Use inline SVG plus CSS/JS animations only (no images, nothing downloaded), animating transform/opacity only. Pause animations when the tab is hidden, and respect prefers-reduced-motion.

A. Living sky scene (the background)

The sky follows the real time: dawn (orange/pink) โ†’ day (blue) โ†’ sunset (purple/orange) โ†’ night (dark blue with twinkling stars).
The sun moves along an arc across the sky according to the current time. At night it's a moon.
Clouds drift slowly from left to right. The higher the current rain chance, the more and darker the clouds. Above 60%, rain drops fall.
The weather cloud: a big soft cloud that floats up and gently bobs, carrying today's temperature and rain % (the "25.5ยฐC ยท 9%" moves onto it).
At the bottom, a strip of grass that sways in the wind.
B. A character on the grass that matches the activity

๐Ÿšถ Walk: a person walking across ยท ๐Ÿƒ Run: a runner ยท โšฝ Football: a kid kicking a ball ยท ๐Ÿ›’ Market: a person with shopping bags ยท ๐Ÿ‘• Dry clothes: a clothesline with shirts flapping ยท ๐ŸšŒ Commute: a yellow danfo bus driving by.
Add two "touch grass" chips: ๐Ÿงบ Picnic (a blanket and basket with people sitting) and ๐ŸŽ‰ Hangout (friends with balloons or music notes).
If it's likely to rain now, the character holds an umbrella.
Simple flat SVG shapes are fine. Smooth movement matters more than detail.
C. Timeline (bars)

Hover or tap a bar to show a tooltip: 3 pm ยท ๐ŸŒง 33% ยท ๐ŸŒก 27.1ยฐC.
The bars grow in one after another when they appear.
The best window has small sprouts growing on top. The window to avoid has tiny clouds dripping above it.
Add a "now" marker at the current hour.
D. Steps one at a time (not a list)

Show only the current step, big and centred, with its own animation: โ˜๏ธ clouds gathering, ๐Ÿง  a pulsing brain or dots, โœ๏ธ a pen writing a line, ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ mic bars bouncing.
When a step finishes, it shrinks into a small โœ“ chip in a row at the top, and the next step slides in.
Steps must follow real server events. Fix: "Reading the sky" never gets a โœ“. Fix: when switching activity with a cached forecast, show "Forecast ready โœ“" instantly and run only the plan and voice steps.
E. Playing

Waveform ring around the play button that moves with the voice (Web Audio AnalyserNode).
Captions that light up word by word (ElevenLabs timings), or appear sentence by sentence if there are no timings.
When the voice ends, the grass grows taller, the character waves or celebrates, then the "I went outside โœ…" button pops up.
F. Honesty and time

Show "Forecast from 06:00 Thu 8 Oct ยท data up to HH:MM". The greeting changes with the time of day (morning, afternoon, evening).
In the evening, show "Tomorrow's brief builds at 05:45", or offer "next 12 hours".
Plan text should be activityโ€‘specific: for dry clothes, use the longest dry stretch and when to bring the clothes in. Drop filler lines like "conditions remain mild".

Research & Implementation Report: Parts C & E

Part C: Timeline (Bars)

1. Hover/Tap Tooltip

  • Mechanism: Single floating tooltip div (.timeline-tooltip) positioned dynamically over the hovered/tapped bar using getBoundingClientRect().
  • Desktop & Mobile Handling: Listen to both pointerenter/pointerleave (desktop) and pointerdown (mobile tap). For touch, tapping outside closes the tooltip.
  • Content Format: ${hour12} ยท ๐ŸŒง ${rain}% ยท ๐ŸŒก ${temp}ยฐC (e.g., 3 pm ยท ๐ŸŒง 33% ยท ๐ŸŒก 27.1ยฐC).
// Tooltip setup
const tooltip = document.createElement('div');
tooltip.className = 'timeline-tooltip';
document.body.appendChild(tooltip);

function showTooltip(bar, hour, rain, temp) {
    const rect = bar.getBoundingClientRect();
    tooltip.innerHTML = `<strong>${hour}</strong> ยท ๐ŸŒง ${rain}% ยท ๐ŸŒก ${temp}ยฐC`;
    tooltip.style.left = `${rect.left + rect.width / 2}px`;
    tooltip.style.top = `${rect.top - 36}px`;
    tooltip.classList.add('visible');
}

function hideTooltip() {
    tooltip.classList.remove('visible');
}
.timeline-tooltip {
    position: fixed;
    transform: translate(-50%, -100%);
    background: rgba(15, 23, 42, 0.88);
    color: #fff;
    padding: 6px 10px;
    border-radius: 6px;
    font-size: 0.75rem;
    pointer-events: none;
    opacity: 0;
    transition: opacity 0.2s, transform 0.2s;
    white-space: nowrap;
    z-index: 1000;
    box-shadow: 0 4px 12px rgba(0,0,0,0.25);
}
.timeline-tooltip.visible {
    opacity: 1;
    transform: translate(-50%, -110%);
}

2. Staggered Bar Entry

.timeline__bar {
    transform-origin: bottom;
    transform: scaleY(0);
    transition: transform 0.5s cubic-bezier(0.34, 1.56, 0.64, 1);
}
.timeline__bar.loaded {
    transform: scaleY(1);
}
@media (prefers-reduced
<truncated 39707 bytes>
n`

In `server.py`, read the timing alignment JSON if it exists:
```python
timings = None
if audio_file:
    stem = Path(audio_file).stem
    json_path = AUDIO_DIR / f"{stem}.json"
    if json_path.exists():
        try:
            timings = json.loads(json_path.read_text(encoding="utf-8"))
        except Exception:
            timings = None
brief = {
    "plan_text": plan_text,
    "audio_file": audio_file,
    "fallback_note": fallback_note,
    "timings": timings,  # Included directly in brief_ready event and GET /status
}
This enables the frontend to highlight words in real time without making extra network requests!
Verdict: READY FOR APPROVAL
Objections & resolutions
  • O-1 (Browser Autoplay Restrictions on Web Audio API โ€” serious): Lazily instantiate and resume AudioContext strictly inside the user's play button click handler.
  • O-2 (Multiple Animation Loops Causing CPU / Battery Drain โ€” serious): Animate only transform/opacity, pause all animations when tab is hidden via visibilitychange (.anim-paused), cancel Web Audio RAF on pause/end, and disable all loops under prefers-reduced-motion.
  • O-3 (Character-to-Word Alignment Parser Edge Cases โ€” minor): Implement a robust whitespace-delimited word parser mapping ElevenLabs character timings to word spans, with graceful fallback to sentence-by-sentence text fading.
  • O-4 (CLI and Web Activity List Out of Sync โ€” minor): Include "picnic" and "hangout" in cli.py argument choices to preserve strict parity between CLI and UI.
One more ui polish
Voice waveform
Circular bar ring around the play button: 48โ€“64 bars on a <canvas> sized to the button, drawn outward from the circle. Bar length comes from Web Audio AnalyserNode frequency data (fftSize 256, smoothing 0.8). Use only the speech range, about 80 Hzโ€“4 kHz, so the bars actually move with the voice.
Connect the existing <audio> element using createMediaElementSource. Create or resume the AudioContext inside the play click (browser autoplay rules).
Progress arc: a thin arc around the ring showing currentTime / duration.
Button pulse: scale 1.00โ€“1.05 based on the average loudness, smoothed so it doesn't jitter.
Colours follow the sky phase (dawn, day, sunset, night).
States: idle glow, loading spinner dots, playing, paused (bars ease back over 300ms), ended (bars flatten, then trigger the grass/celebrate animation). Textโ€‘only mode: a gentle pulse while captions appear.
Performance: requestAnimationFrame only while playing; stop the loop on pause, on end, or when the tab is hidden. Reduced motion: progress arc only.
Test by hand: play, pause, resume, end, and switching activity midโ€‘play (it stops cleanly, no double audio).
Checkpoint 7 appended to journal/w1-go-out-today.md.
For Ise to confirm
  1. Start the server: bash uv run w1-go-out-today --serve
  2. Open http://localhost:8000 in your browser:
    • Living Sky: Verify current time palette, celestial body arc position (sun/moon), drifting clouds, and bobbing weather cloud with temperature and rain risk.
    • Characters: Click through chips (Walk, Run, Football, Market, Dry clothes, Commute, Picnic, Hangout) and observe the animated SVG actor on the swaying grass strip (with umbrella if rain probability >= 40%).
    • Steps: Check that only one big step is shown in the center at a time, shrinking to โœ“ Sky read and โœ“ Forecast ready at the top; verify switching activities skips directly to plan writing.
    • Timeline: Hover / tap any bar to see the 3 pm ยท ๐ŸŒง 33% ยท ๐ŸŒก 27.1ยฐC tooltip, sprouts on the best window, rain clouds on the avoid window, and the NOW marker.
    • Waveform Canvas: Click Play: observe 56 radial bars pulsing to speech frequencies with button scaling and circular progress arc. Test play, pause, resume, and switching activity mid-play (verifying audio stops cleanly without doubling).
    • Captions & Ending: Watch words highlight synchronously with the voice. When audio finishes, observe grass grow taller, the character celebrate, and the "I went outside โœ…" button pop up.
    • Performance: Switch to another browser tab and verify animations pause cleanly.
You
<USER_REQUEST>
I still have some bugs, which you did not see
you do the bugs before any polish.
Wrong activity brief: I picked Dry clothes and got the Walk plan and audio. Cache plan and audio by issue_time + activity (+ voice/model for audio). Give every request a request ID and ignore replies that don't match the activity selected now (cancel the old fetch/SSE with AbortController). Add a test: request walk then dry clothes quickly, and the result must be dry clothes.
Captions have no spaces: keep the spaces between word spans (add a real space text node, or white-space: pre-wrap). Add a test or a manual check.
Lock the chips while building or playing: the other chips are greyed out (opacity 0.4, disabled, aria-disabled, not-allowed cursor) and the selected chip shows a small spinner. Unlock when the brief ends, is paused/stopped, or fails. Add a "Stop" option on the play button that unlocks.
Plan text: it said "rain stays under 33% throughout the rest of the day", which is false. The plan must name the best window AND the window to avoid, and must not make wholeโ€‘day claims. The guard should reject phrases like "rest of the day" / "all day" unless they're true for every hour. Activityโ€‘specific wording (dry clothes = longest dry stretch, when to bring them in).
The step chips are always consistent: "Forecast ready โœ“" shows whenever the forecast came from cache.
Polish
6. Night contrast: text colours follow the sky phase. At night, use light text (#F1F5F9) for the title, subtitle, chips, hour labels and captions. Unread caption words at 55% opacity, not dark. All text meets WCAG AA. Title weight 500+, not thin.
7. One screen: the main content fits 1920ร—1080 and 1366ร—768 without scrolling during playback. Use a centred column (maxโ€‘width ~760px) and a spacing scale (8/16/24/32px). Remove the big empty gaps. Reserve bottom padding equal to the grass height so nothing sits on the grass. The grass stays behind the content (zโ€‘index).
8. No overlaps: place the "Tomorrow's brief" pill under the subtitle, not on the moon. Keep clouds away from the title area. The weatherโ€‘cloud text fits inside the cloud (size the cloud to the text). Show a shimmer placeholder instead of "--ยฐC ยท --%".
9. Chips: 2 rows of 4, same width.
10. Characters: bigger (~2ร— now) and lighter, or with a light outline at night, so they're visible. Give the walker a real body (head, body, swinging arms and legs), not a stick.
11. Play button: at night add a soft moonlight ring/border so it stands out.
Plan: [plans/w1-M6-fix-brief-activity-and-ui.md](file:///[REDACTED_PATH]
Verdict: READY FOR APPROVAL. Awaiting approval. I will not write code until you reply APPROVE.
Objections:
1. O-1 (Concurrency race on rapid chip clicks - serious): Rapid clicks could cause out-of-order SSE responses; resolved by having server.py track and cancel obsolete brief tasks, tagging all requests/events with activity and request_id, and having app.js abort in-flight fetches with AbortController and ignore mismatched SSE events.
2. O-2 (Chip locking preventing interrupt - blocker): Locking chips during build/playback could trap users who want to change activity; resolved by adding a "Stop" control state to the play button that immediately halts audio, cancels generation, and unlocks all chips.
3. O-3 (Small screen 1366ร—768 vertical overflow - minor): Captions and timeline together could cause page scrolling; resolved with a compact spacing scale (8/16/24px), capped timeline bar height (60px), and reserved bottom clearance so content never overlaps the grass.
For Ise to confirm:
1. Start the server via uv run w1-go-out-today --serve and open http://localhost:8000.
2. Rapidly toggle between chips (e.g. Walk -> Dry clothes): confirm that in-flight requests abort cleanly and Dry clothes generates its own tailored brief (longest dry stretch and when to bring clothes in).
3. Confirm captions during playback have clear spaces between words.
4. Confirm chips lock (with spinner on selected chip) during generation/playback, and the Stop button on the play control unlocks them immediately.
5. In night mode: verify high text contrast (#F1F5F9), ~2x enlarged character with night outline, walker limb swing animations, and soft moonlight play button glow.
6. Verify single-screen fit (no vertical scroll on 1920x1080 and 1366x768) with grass sitting behind content.
