Introducing RevanScript (RVS) — My Own Programming Language Written in C
Hello, developers!
My name is Revan Babayev, and I am the creator and primary developer of RevanScript (RVS), an experimental programming language project that I started on April 4, 2026.
RVS is an interpreter-based programming language written primarily in C99. The main goal of this project is to explore programming language design, interpreter development, memory management, and the engineering principles behind programming languages.
Why RevanScript?
Creating a programming language is a different experience from simply writing applications. It requires thinking about syntax, execution, memory, expressions, data structures, and how different components work together.
Through RVS, I want to understand these concepts by building a language implementation from the ground up.
Rather than focusing on adding as many features as possible, I want to develop a language with a clear structure, practical functionality, and a maintainable implementation.
Technical Overview
RevanScript is developed primarily in C99, with an emphasis on keeping the implementation compatible with standard C99 compilers.
Some of the project's key areas include:
Interpreter development: Parsing and checking scripts before execution.
Variables and data types: Working with values and structured data.
Control flow: Implementing conditional statements and loops.
Functions: Building the foundations for reusable code.
Memory management: Developing the internal systems responsible for storing and handling data.
Built-in functionality: Expanding the language's capabilities through modules and libraries.
The project is organized into several internal components, including systems for parsing, input/output, buffers, expressions, and table-based memory.
Development Philosophy
RVS is a long-term learning and engineering project.
I believe that understanding how programming languages work internally is just as important as knowing how to use them. Developing RVS gives me an opportunity to study these concepts through practical implementation rather than theory alone.
My current priority is to improve the interpreter's stability, strengthen its internal architecture, and gradually expand its functionality.
There is still a lot of work ahead, and I consider that part of the journey.
What's Next?
Future development may include improvements to memory management, testing infrastructure, built-in libraries, and developer tools.
My goal is to continue building RVS step by step, prioritizing a reliable foundation before pursuing larger features.
Final Thoughts
RevanScript is more than a collection of language features for me. It is an ongoing exploration of how programming languages are designed and implemented.
I'm sharing this project to document my progress, connect with other developers, and learn from the programming community.
If you are interested in interpreters, C programming, or programming language design, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts!
