AXIS GPS & Surveying Instruments (Hebrew: אקסיס ג'י פי אס ומכשירי מדידה בע"מ), which also trades as AXIS Engineering Solutions, is a surveying and geospatial equipment company registered in 2009 and based in Nof HaGalil.[1] It distributes surveying and mapping instruments, operates a GNSS reference network, and runs branches in Kafr Kanna, Kfar Kasem, Ramallah and Hebron.[2]
History
[edit]The company was registered on 6 September 2009.[1] Its founders are brothers who trained as engineers at the Technion.[3] In January 2018 Applanix, a subsidiary of Trimble Inc., announced that the company would supply its products to air and land survey customers in Israel.[4] In July 2018 it opened a fourth branch, together with a technology training centre, in Hebron.[2]
Operations
[edit]The company distributes equipment from manufacturers including Trimble, Applanix, Spectra Geospatial, Nikon, NavVis, DJI and SITECH.[5] Its product range covers GNSS receivers, total stations, laser scanners and levelling instruments.[5]
It operates a GNSS reference network for real-time positioning, reported to have more than 1,200 subscribers,[5] and a repair and calibration laboratory licensed by Trimble.[2] Israeli public bodies that have procured equipment from the company include the Survey of Israel and the Geological Survey of Israel.[1]
Palestinian national geodetic framework
[edit]In October 2022 the Palestinian Land Authority awarded the contract to develop the Palestinian national geodetic reference framework to a consortium comprising the company, a Turkish geographic services firm and the scientific centres of An-Najah National University. The project forms part of a World Bank-funded land registration programme, and the consortium was represented at the signing by Samuel Awawde.[6]
Earlier, in August 2017, an official of the Palestinian Land Authority described coordination with the company in connection with the establishment of a national geodetic network, at a GNSS training workshop the company sponsored at An-Najah National University.[7]
Conferences and training
[edit]The company has organised an annual engineering and surveying conference in Ramallah. The fourth edition, on land settlement and reference networks, was held in September 2017.[8] The sixth, held in October 2019 under the patronage of Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, was announced by the Palestinian Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.[9] In 2026 the company delivered a series of workshops on digital transformation in engineering with the Jerusalem Centre of the Palestinian Engineers Association, at its Hebron, Ramallah and Nablus branches.[10]
Academic support
[edit]Palestine Polytechnic University houses a laboratory for advanced surveying and satellite positioning named after the founders' father, Muhammad Fandi al-Awawdeh, which the company equips; it has also contributed 33,000 shekels to the university's student fund.[11] At the opening of its Hebron branch in 2018 the company announced a donation of educational software worth US$40,000 to the same university.[2]
