Africa Relief and Community Development (ARCD) is a humanitarian non-profit organization located in Clifton, New Jersey, United States. Established in 2019, the organization acquired tax-exempt status from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service in the same year and organizes humanitarian and development programs in several African countries.[1]
Programs
[edit]ARCD provides major support to Africa, operating programs that help with the provision of food aid, they provide skill training sessions for women. ARCD also delivers health care services, supports orphans and increases the accessibility to clean water. The organization operates health clinics in The Gambia, including facilities in the villages of Sambouya and Bussura.[2]
ARCD Country Specific Programmatic and Geographical Focus

[edit]In November 2023, ARCD donated US$12,000 to the Save the Nation Sight Clinic in East Legon, Accra, funding free cataract surgeries for 200 low-income patients. The donation was reported by Ghanaian Times, which noted that government reimbursement rates under Ghana's National Health Insurance Scheme were widely considered insufficient to cover the full cost of cataract procedures, leading non-governmental organizations to provide supplementary support for surgeries serving indigent patients. According to the report, the Save the Nation Sight Clinic had performed 71 free cataract operations earlier in 2023 before the ARCD donation.[3]
Gambia
[edit]In March 2024, ARCD partnered with the United States-based organization World Medical Relief to donate medical equipment valued at approximately US$1 million to The Gambia's Ministry of Health. The donation, presented to the Ministry through the Regional Director of Health for Western One, Musa Camara, included dialysis supplies and related medical equipment. Portions of the donation were allocated to ARCD-operated clinics in Sambouya and Bussura, and to other public health facilities in the region.[2]
In a subsequent donation reported by PTV Gambia, ARCD provided additional medical supplies valued at over US$3 million to The Gambia's Ministry of Health, as part of continuing efforts to support healthcare delivery in the country.[4]
West Africa
[edit]In June 2025, ARCD partnered with Islamic Relief USA to launch a 30 million dalasi (approximately US$450,000) Qurbani project timed to Eid al-Adha (locally observed as Tobaski), aimed at supporting more than 65,000 people across six West African countries: The Gambia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, and Niger. The project targeted orphans, female-headed households, and people with disabilities in remote villages, and engaged local Gambian suppliers, transporters, and butchers as part of its distribution effort.[5]
