Baruch Acardi Nembhard, known professionally as Mixx, is an American record producer, recording and mixing engineer, songwriter and composer for film and television, based in Los Angeles. Working through his company MixxProduction LLC, he holds 420 credits on recordings whose combined lifetime streams exceed eight billion, according to the credits database Muso.AI.[2] His engineering and production work appears on 24 titles certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), including Polo G's Die a Legend and "Through da Storm", French Montana's "No Stylist" and Teyana Taylor's "Gonna Love Me", and on five projects that reached number one on Billboard charts.[3][4][5][6]
Nembhard composed the score for the ALLBLK crime drama D.O.P.E. Unit (2026) and was the recording engineer on "Welcome to the Party", which appeared in the film Deadpool 2 and on its Grammy-nominated soundtrack.[7] He was a producer and recording engineer on Teyana Taylor's Escape Room, nominated for Best R&B Album at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.[8][9]
Early life
[edit]Nembhard was born in South Florida and raised in Jamaica, where he has said he was "influenced by reggae music at an early age", before returning to Florida, where hip hop and R&B became formative.[10][11] One side of his family was, in his words, "heavy on church music", while the other started a record label.[10] He has said that music kept him out of the street life that took in many of his peers, against parents who had hoped he would pursue college and a profession.[10]
He began DJing professionally at 15, saving to buy his own equipment and playing clubs and parties around South Florida; he has called it his "first successful hustle". Recordings he made with friends and played during his sets gained local attention, and after one "blew up locally" he shifted his focus from DJing to production.[10] He taught himself to produce on FruityLoops (now FL Studio), which he downloaded "when the industry looked at it as a toy", and learned the studio through older cousins who were working in the industry, using their free studio time to record with a friend from high school.[10] He attended Full Sail University from 2007 to 2009, earning an Associate of Science in Recording Arts, and afterwards worked at Hula Records in Fort Lauderdale.[12]
His professional break came through South Beach Studio in Miami. He brought his own clients to the studio, and its owner began referring work to him in return, at first local rappers and then major-label artists.[10]
Career
[edit]Teyana Taylor and VII
[edit]Nembhard's career began in earnest with Teyana Taylor, one of the "major acts" referred to him through South Beach Studio. He joined the sessions for her debut studio album VII (2014, GOOD Music/Def Jam Recordings), which he has described as "a full process".[10] He produced "In the Air" for the album, his first industry placement, and holds a songwriting credit on "Broken Hearted Girl" featuring Fabolous.[10][13] VII debuted at number one on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top R&B Albums charts, and Nembhard has cited its number-one plaque as the first of his career.[10][14] The working relationship has continued across every Taylor album since, including K.T.S.E. (2018), The Album (2020) and Escape Room (2025), with 71 shared credits listed on Muso.AI.[15]
Recording and mixing
[edit]Much of Nembhard's certified catalog comes from his work as a recording engineer for French Montana and Teyana Taylor and as a mixing engineer for Polo G.[3]
French Montana is his longest-running collaborator: Muso.AI lists 103 recordings on which the two share a credit, from the Coke Zoo mixtape in 2015 to the present, including 70 songs Nembhard recorded, mixed or mastered across Montana, Coke Boys 5, They Got Amnesia, Montega and Coke Boys 6, and features for Diddy, Stefflon Don, Liam Payne, Pheelz, CJ and Swizz Beatz.[15][16] For French Montana he recorded "No Stylist" featuring Drake, certified double platinum, and "Welcome to the Party" with Diplo, Lil Pump and Zhavia Ward, certified platinum, as well as "Writing on the Wall" (with Post Malone, Cardi B and Rvssian), "Wiggle It" (with City Girls), "Mopstick" (with Kodak Black) and the gold-certified album Montana (2019), on which he is also credited as a writer.[3][5][7] He also recorded French Montana's contribution to Jennifer Lopez's "Medicine", which reached number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.[17]
With Teyana Taylor, Nembhard engineered four tracks on the 2018 Kanye West-produced album K.T.S.E., including the double-platinum single "Gonna Love Me", the platinum "Issues/Hold On" and the gold-certified "Rose in Harlem", and its remix of "Gonna Love Me" with Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Raekwon.[6][3] He is credited as producer, engineer, mixer and composer on The Album (2020), which reached number one on the Top R&B Albums chart and was certified gold.[18][3][14]
As mixing engineer for Polo G, Nembhard mixed ten of the fourteen tracks on Die a Legend (2019), which reached number one on the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart and was certified double platinum.[4][3][19] Singles from the album he mixed include "Through da Storm" (triple platinum), "Chosen 1" (double platinum), "Dyin Breed", "Deep Wounds" and "Effortless" (each platinum), and "BST" and "Picture This" (each gold).[3]
By volume, his largest body of engineering work is with Soulja Boy, for whom he has mixed and mastered more than a hundred songs since 2015, including the albums Big Draco, Big Draco 2, No Looking Back and Swag 4 and the collaborative album Ignorant Shit with Bow Wow.[16] Other artists on records he has engineered include The Weeknd and 21 Savage (on Diddy's "Another One of Me", 2023), Big Sean, DJ Premier and Larry June (Teyana Taylor's "Million Pieces"), Ciara and Normani ("Ecstasy" remix), Jill Scott and Tyla ("Pum Pum Jump"), Becky G, DRAM, DJ Drama, Lauryn Hill, A$AP Rocky, Logic, Kehlani, Lil Durk and Kodak Black.[16]
Production and songwriting
[edit]Nembhard produced and co-wrote French Montana's "Slide" featuring Blueface and Lil Tjay, certified gold, a beat he has said was made in ten minutes and built into a song with Lil Tjay and Blueface recording in person over the following weeks.[20][10][3] He also produced four tracks on French Montana's Coke Boys 5 (2020): "In the Sun" featuring Curren$y, "Brothers" featuring Lil Durk, "Big Cap" and "You Deserve a Oscar".[10][16] He co-wrote Teyana Taylor's "Morning" featuring Kehlani, also certified gold, and co-produced "Killa" featuring Davido on The Album.[21][18][3] He was a producer, engineer, programmer and writer on "Hold Your Breath" from Nav's Bad Habits (2019), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and also topped the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts; the album was certified gold.[22][3]
Although best known for hip hop and R&B, Nembhard's production and engineering catalog extends across pop, soul, drill, Afrobeats, reggae, Latin, world and dance music, reflecting the Caribbean influences of his upbringing; his credits include Jennifer Lopez, Davido, Diplo and Chlöe Bailey.[1][16]
He served as a producer and recording engineer on Teyana Taylor's Escape Room (2025), with songwriting credits including "Back to Life" featuring Tasha Smith, "Final Destination" and "Always". The album received a nomination for Best R&B Album at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, where the award went to Leon Thomas's Mutt.[8][9] The project was also nominated at the NAACP Image Awards, the BET Awards and the Webby Awards.[23]
Film, television and other media
[edit]Nembhard composed the score for D.O.P.E. Unit, a crime drama created by Thomas Walton that premiered on ALLBLK, the AMC Networks streaming service, on August 6, 2026 and ran for eight weekly episodes. He is credited as composer on all eight episodes and placed songs across the season, including its theme, "Get Down".[24][25]
"Welcome to the Party", which he recorded, was featured in Deadpool 2 (2018) and on the film's soundtrack album, which was nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards; the song was later used in the 2019 film Playing with Fire.[26][7] His recordings have been licensed to television, including "Morning" in the Starz series P-Valley, "Slide" in NCIS: New Orleans, "Clock It" in Love & Hip Hop: Miami and "Intro" in two reunion episodes of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.[27] He is a post-production producer on the film Respect the Shooter.[citation needed]
Nembhard mixed the voiceover for A Love Letter to Harlem, the Air Jordan brand film made with Teyana Taylor, and "Ghetto Boy", a track he engineered, appeared on the soundtrack of the video game Madden NFL 16.[28]
MixxProduction LLC
[edit]Nembhard operates as MixxProduction LLC, through which he offers production, mixing and mastering services and licenses beats. He also runs an independent record label under the Mixx name.[28]
