SpenDoe is an American hip-hop artist from Santa Cruz, California. His music draws on West Coast hip hop, including the Bay Area-derived mob music style.[1] He has also released music under the name M. Aundre.[2]

Career

In December 2006, the BBC Asian Network included SpenDoe's song "Unforgettable" in "Friction's Top Five" on Bobby Friction's program; the surviving page lists the song second.[3] The song also appeared on the network's The Hype Show playlist in February 2007.[4]

In September 2019, SpenDoe was featured on the cover and interviewed in the first issue of 41510 Magazine.[5] In 2020, the California Black Media article "A Deadly Mix: Hip Hop Mashed Up With Opioid Abuse in California" noted his collaboration with Sacramento rapper Mozzy on "Omertà".[6]

During 2021, several music publications reviewed SpenDoe's singles. We Write About Music discussed the acoustic-guitar opening, bass, synthesizers and vocal delivery of "Foreign to Me", while Australian publication Stimulate Your Soul characterized it as combining a West Coast sound with Mediterranean-influenced instrumentation.[7][8] Italian publication Indie Italia and French publication Indie Chronique reviewed "Changing Lanes", describing its forceful flow and mixture of old-school hip-hop, funk and groove.[9][10]

SpenDoe and Sacramento rapper-producer C-DUBB released the collaborative project Professional Mobbin: The Cali Way. In 2022, Crooked Forest published an interview with SpenDoe centered on "To the Top", his collaboration with producer Sureet Sandhu and his West Coast influences.[1]

Under the M. Aundre name, he released "Altered State" in 2023. Writing for EARMILK, Malvika Padin characterized the song as nostalgic, West Coast-influenced hip hop with introspective lyrics.[11]

SpenDoe performed at the 2023 Juneteenth celebration in Drake Park in Bend, Oregon; The Bulletin used a photograph of his performance as the lead image in its coverage of the event.[12] In October 2023, he released the five-track West Coast EP, produced primarily by C-DUBB with an additional contribution from Vallejo producer the Slapmaster. Lyrics & Threads described the project as drawing from the Bay Area mob-music tradition and highlighted the reflective writing and relaxed delivery of "Rollin Up".[13] That year, SpenDoe also appeared on "Official", from San Quinn and C-DUBB's collaborative album The Mob Hour Continues, opening the song's first verse.[14]

In 2024, French music publication Extravafrench reviewed "C.O.A.", a C-DUBB-produced track from Name 100, describing its bass-heavy trap production as drawing on the 1990s Bay Area mob-music tradition and emphasizing ambition and perseverance.[15] Last Day Deaf subsequently reviewed the EP.[16]

Coverage of the Name 100 single "Smiles and Cries" appeared in PopFad, The Urban Juice, Korliblog, and LandonBuford.com. The reviews discussed its synth-driven production and themes of adversity, resilience and the contrasting experiences of life.[17][18][19][20]

In May 2025, Sway's Universe selected "Name 100" for its weekly SU SoundWave feature, identifying SpenDoe as an independent Santa Cruz artist and discussing the track's West Coast production by C-DUBB.[21]

In 2026, SpenDoe appeared on Day Day's "From the Bay", from the album My Elevation (M.E.). The track was produced by Funk Daddy.[22][23] World Wide Hip Hop credited SpenDoe as the album's executive producer.[24]
