Tomas Gorny was born in 1975 in Poland. He is a businessman and entrepreneur living in the United States. He is the current chairman and chief executive officer of Nextiva.[1] He co-founded Nextiva in 2008.[2] Before Nextiva, he started IPOWER, a web hosting company, and SiteLock, a website security company.[3][4] Nextiva is based in Scottsdale, Arizona.[1]
Early life
[edit]Gorny was born in Zabrze, Poland, in 1975.[5] He relocated from Zabrze at the age of 14.[4] He arrived in the United States in the mid 1990s at the age of 20, and knew very little English.[6][7] According to Business Insider, he worked several part time jobs when he first arrived, including valet parking and carpet cleaning.[6] He has said that he lived on about $3 a day after rent and transport.[7][8] He dropped out of college and moved to Los Angeles to work on a web hosting business.[7]
Career
[edit]Gorny became a millionaire at 23 in 1998 when he sold the web hosting business he joined to another business for several million dollars.[7] He lost most of his money in the dot-com crash.[8][7]
In 2001, Gorny founded IPOWER.[3] He said he started the company to raise enough money to pay off his mortgage.[8] CNBC reported that IPOWER was sold to Endurance International for a reported $100 million.[8] Arizona State University's W. P. Carey School of Business states that the company was later sold to Warburg Pincus and Goldman Sachs for nearly $1 billion in 2011, and that it then went public.[3] Gorny also founded UnitedWeb, a holding company, where he is chairman and chief executive, and SiteLock, a website security company that was acquired by ABRY Partners in 2018.[3]
In 2008, Gorny started Nextiva, a cloud communications company.[2] In November 2024, CNBC reported that a company spokesperson said Gorny's net worth exceeded $1 billion.[1][8]
