🤝 RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and the University of the Basque Country Establish Strategic Collaboration in Mission-Critical Communications and Connected Mobility
"This collaboration brings together complementary expertise, infrastructures, and testing capabilities that can help accelerate innovation and interoperability in mission-critical communications. By working together, we can support the development of trusted and standards-based solutions for public safety and other critical sectors across Europe," says Peter Janevik, CEO of RISE proving ground AstaZero.
Mission Critical Communications are undergoing a major technological transformation. In Sweden, the Rakel communication system is gradually being replaced by Swen (Swedish Emergency Network), a new 4G/5G-based platform designed for emergency services and total defence.
"Unlike previous generations of emergency communication systems, these new systems support real-time video and data sharing between multiple actors involved in the same operation. This creates entirely new opportunities for digital collaboration in critical situations, but also introduces new technical challenges," says Peter Janevik.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of the Basque Country strengthens collaboration in mission-critical communications and connected transport systems through joint research, testing, and knowledge-sharing activities. Together, the organisations will leverage advanced 4G/5G research infrastructures, mission-critical communication platforms, network simulators, protocol conformance, load testing and network and services monitoring tools, RF/EMC laboratories, and connected transport research facilities. These capabilities will support joint research, testing, validation, and interoperability assessment activities.
"This partnership reinforces our commitment to contributing towards open, interoperable and high performance mission-critical communications over 5G and beyond technologies. By combining EHU’s worldwide recognised leadership on mission critical communication and RISE’s expertise and facilities, we can accelerate the validation and deployment of resilient solutions for emergency communications, railways and connected vehicles," says Gotzone Barandika Argoitia, Vice-rector for Transfer and Internationalization, University of the Basque Country.
