New release: A clearer, faster way to manage blocked users

Spammy and disruptive accounts are an increasing challenge for maintainers. As repositories and communities grow, maintainers need effective tools to protect their spaces, reduce abuse, and keep work focused on meaningful collaboration.

Blocking users is an important part of community moderation, but managing blocked users hasn’t always been simple. Today, we’re introducing a faster, clearer way to review and manage blocked users across your GitHub account and organizations.

Manage blocked users more efficiently

With these updates, maintainers can:

• Search by username, full name, or email
• Sort and paginate through large lists
• Filter users by common block reasons, including Spam, Misconduct, and Harassment
• Add private notes to preserve important moderation context
• View and edit block settings
• See organization context, including who blocked someone and when the block ends
• Clearly distinguish between searching for a blocked user and blocking someone new

• Your account: Settings → Moderation → Blocked users
• An organization you administer: Organization settings → Moderation → Blocked users

Hey so this feature looks pretty good, but I'm noticing that labels cannot be added on the first prompt / popup when blocking users, but rather going back and editing the block settings, which I find inconvenient.

Would be nice if it was on that pop up for initial blocking! Thanks for rolling out more moderation features, we truly do appreciate it.
