I'm a bit confused trying to follow the documentation for (I thought) setting up Issue auto-conversion to Discussions based on a Label.

According to that doc, it's possible (emphasis added):

Converting issues based on labels

You can convert all issues with the same label to discussions in bulk. Future issues with this label will also automatically convert to the discussion and category you configure.

1. On GitHub.com, navigate to the main page of the repository or, for organization discussions, the source repository.

2. Under your repository name, click Issues.

3. Above the list of issues or pull requests, click Labels.

4. Next to the label you want to convert to issues, click Convert issues.

5. Select the Choose a category drop-down menu, and click a category for your discussion.

6. Click I understand, convert this issue to a discussion.

I've attempted to do all of those steps, applying a new label to an existing Issue I want to convert and clicking "Convert Issues" next to the label. But here's what the interface shows me:

That seems like exactly the opposite of what the documentation claims. So, now I have no idea which to believe.

Is the problem that I only have one issue tagged with that label? Does the label require a certain number of issues when doing the initial conversion, for it to be set up for auto-conversion? Or is one of those two sources just wrong?

The repository in question, which is public and not in any way unusual, is https://github.com/GSConnect/gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/. I am a member of the GSConnect organization and a repo Admin.

I'm running into this exact same situation and I was hoping to get some clarification on this and your post came up. It's unfortunate that no one from the github team has seen and clarified this. I hope to get some more visibility on this by adding a comment. Otherwise, I have no idea how I'm going to prevent a lot of question/discussion posts from being created in my Issues when I have a Discussions page, which I want to automate to simplify and declutter things.

Yep, documentation clearly states "Future issues with this label will also automatically convert to the discussion and category you configure" and then the UI upon doing so (curiously, screenshots of this UI left out for this step in the docs...) says the exact opposite.

@dipree any suggestions or help? I want any questions/discussions mistakenly opened as an Issue to be automatically moved to Discussions, based on these labels. If this is not possible, is this possible via Github Actions?
