A 'Guide in Secret'
Hello all,
I have never been part of the Guiding movement. I was part of the Scouts, and was until I was 18.
I think I would have rather been a guide, though I had little to base this on. A neighbour was a guide, and she seemed to enjoy it. My mother was a Queen Guide, and I got told stories and helpful tidbits from her experience.
I found Scouts to be rough, and, despite earning many badges in my time there, all I can remember is how to tie a reef-knot. In the later years all they did, apart from the start and end ceremonies, was smoke around the back. Needless to say, it was disapointing.
I joined this community for two reasons. I wanted to find out if the real experience of being a Guide was as good as I had thought it to be. Secondly was to find out what the uniforms were like at the time. I can vaguely recall them, but any detail has been long forgotten. They changed the Brownie uniform just as I was leaving the equivalant (cubs), and I think the Guide uniform itself has also changed since then.
I have bought Guide badges off auction sites, but I know that, for me, the only to enjoy any acheivement badges is to actually earn them. Now that I am independant, I feel that I am too old to try (mid 20s). I guess I'll be a 'Guide in Secret'
